  • Great for Professional Home Studio Voice-over, Vocal, and Instrument Recordings
Size: AT2035 Color: Bundle w/ Pop Filter
Without going into all the technical details: Used correctly (assumes knowledge of acoustics, hardware and software etc), this mic can be easily used for professional class recordings, certainly including vocals. I also have an AT2020, and while it's also excellent for recording, I like the "high pass" filter which rolls off the bass frequencies nicely, especially for vocals. The additional surface space of the cardioid pattern in the AT2035 vs AT2020 does seem to me to bring a different tone, which in my view lends itself well to some voices (hard for me to quantify this exactly, but it seems a little more "bright" in raw recordings). Of course with an array of high end plugins and gear, you can make even mediocre recordings sound much better, but for professional level recording, there is a lot of factors which will make the raw recording significantly easier to "polish" at the Mixing and Mastering stages, by getting it right from the start (includes having the right sound isolation and acoustic treatment, gear/DAW etc in the "studio" - including "home studios"). The AT 2035 I've found is great for recording vocals (singing, voiceover etc) and acoustic guitar. I've yet to try it with stringed or brass/woodwind instruments, but would expect the quality to be in the same region. NOTE: This Microphone needs "Phantom Power" to run, and uses XLR connections, so this is NOT for use with USB directly, you need an Audio Interface with the XLR capability and Phantom Power to work. Personally, I MUCH prefer to run with a Thunderbolt capable Audio Interface, and use a Resident T4 for example (there are many to choose from) which is a Thunderbolt 2 interface, hence many times faster than USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 (idea being the "latency" is much better via Thunderbolt vs USB - depending on the PC set up and the type of Audio Interface, this will vary, but we're talking multiple, sometimes 10 times faster - so this is SIGNIFICANT - Note: Macs etc run natively with Thunderbolt). Re if you want to run the AT2035 through a Thunderbolt interface on PC, you will need a motherboard which is Thunderbolt capable, and often requires a specifically dedicated Thunderbolt card for the particular brand and type of motherboard to work, PLUS with the enabling software to allow the Thunderbolt to work. Reducing the time it takes for your signal to be processed, and for you to avoid "lag" in hearing the result (if it's delayed too much it can be VERY distracting if singing/playing for example), I'd highly recommend getting the best gear you can, and also if using a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), getting the right "ASIO" software, and also minimizing all active programs to optimize CPU/RAM and Storage I/O (Input/Output) rates. Also, getting a quality Audio Interface will allow you to record with the sample rates and quality level you desire, which if quality is important, will be critical to the end result. So, if you want to get the most out of this mic, considering pairing this with some of the above supporting aspects to getting a great recording, this mic is certainly good enough for high end home studios to get professional class recordings, and at a great price point. ... show more

  • The most solid audio purchase I have ever made
I decided I wanted to experiment with my PC's audio options. I bought a small Behringer Q1202USB mixer, and this microphone. I already had a Heil boom arm mounted to my wall, behind my monitors, so this was a perfect purchase. My previous microphone was a Blue Yeti. I plugged it in with an XLR cable, and it just worked. There were very little adjustments I needed to make on the mixer to make this microphone sound beautiful. I use this to speak to friends, to record videos, to stream video games, and it sounds fantastic no matter what I do. The Gearlux bag is a bit out of place. The mic doesn't really fit in any of the mic slots, but it's a nice bonus. The shock mount. My god what a welcomed bonus. I was going to buy a shock mount as well as a condenser mic, but with one of the most highly rated condenser microphones in its price range, the fact that it comes with a shock mount made this a very obvious choice. The cable is a basic cable, it works with no issue. The pop filter is pretty much your generic pop filter. I already had a pop filter made by Blue, so I don't use this one, but it's nice to have a backup. I'm by no means an audio expert, but hundreds of people giving gleaming reviews on this product likely aren't wrong, right? ... show more

  • Audio Technica AT2020 - A Beginner's Review
Size: AT2020 Color: Bundle w/ Pop Filter & Cable
This microphone is very very nice, and very high quality. I bought this microphone to get into podcasting. Coming from someone who has no previous knowledge or background in audio or recording, (I have to say) its a little frustrating at first. But once you learn and read more about how it all is suppose to work together it is very interesting. The microphone and the bundle itself is exceptionally good value. The pop filter is nice and very adjustable. The XLR cable that comes with it is very nice too! For instance I bought another XLR cable on a different order. After comparing the two, the cable that comes with the bundle is far better in terms of quality. The microphone is unbelievably good. No audio noise, very clear, well built. I use the soft cloth that comes with it and place it on top of the microphone to keep dust off of it. I have the microphone going through a Behringer Xenyx302 USB mixer. Again, setting all this up without knowing what you're doing isn't very fun. Thankfully there is alot of information out there that will at least get you started. Trial and error with different setups will always be there however. ... show more

  • Fantastic microphone for the price, based off of legendary AT2020
The AT2035 has served me faithfully for almost a year now. I suppose I should list off some pros and cons about the mic itself: Pros -Excellent quality sound -Fantastic feeling construction (solid metal!) -Reasonable profile that makes it easy to work with -Bass and gain reduction switches for a little more versatility There really aren't that many things to say about it, honestly. It's just...good! In regards to the bundle itself, there are a few complaints, but nothing bad. Cons (bundle) -Included shockmount is extremely small, and if the AT2035 had a less robust construction, it would have destroyed it -Mounting to the shockmount is a massive ordeal because it is too small for the mic, but it fits with great effort. -The included bag, while nice, is meant for 4 hand held wireless mics and a receiver, not a studio microphone. -The pop filter doesn't work super well and has a hard time holding up it's own weight Despite the failings of some aspects of the bundle, I wouldn't recommend getting the AT2035 without it, if you don't have much equipment to work with. While I will be upgrading to a better, more expensive mic at some point, that is some time away and this will serve me well until then. Highly recommended if you're just getting started in the VO industry. ... show more
