  • Third motherboards a charm?
Style: Z790|WiFi 7
Yes. I have rebuilt my PC 3 times in the last 3 months. Did I want to? Absolutely not!! I could not buy a motherboard or set of RAM stable enough to obviously not last more than a few weeks. Now, this is a VERY tentative 5 star rating but, maybe, just maybe this is the one??? I sure didn't want to pay $450 plus for a motherboard, but if it consists of actual quality and real stability, I'll obviously pay up. Just for a little background info, my CPU, 14700K, 1000W MSI PSU, 4070 Ti Super. Started with a TUF Z790 Gaming Plus Wifi. Most unstable product you can buy, at least for my CPU and nothing but RAM issues. I requested RMA but never sent it in because I kind of threw it after taking it out of the chassis. Oops. So that was obviously my loss and fault and I'm OK with that, BUT maybe if the mobo had been decent, that wouldn't have happened?? I dunno, just a thought. Second motherboard purchased one month later, ASUS ROG Strix Z790 A Wifi II. Supposed to be for 14th gen Intel out of the box. Well, it was OK some days, but most days was once again unstable especially with memory. So I decided to buy a new set of RAM. G-Skill Trident 7200MTs. Wasn't stable at any stock XMP setting until lowering the frequency. So Not 24 hours after installing that RAM the whole PC shut off. I don't know if it was the RAM or Motherboard so, I sent these back this time. I'm genuinely displeased and tired of playing this run around. So, I get my small once a month check again on the 1st and I buy this motherboard (I know you're thinking, why do you keep buying ASUS you idiot???) and a set of TeamGroup T-Force Delta 6800MT's and so far everything is going without a hitch. No memory errors, XMP actually works along with dimmflex. SO maybe the extra money was worth it, but time will tell because there's a serious lack of quality control on these high priced products which makes you company extremely untrustworthy. I hope this one works out ... show more

  • Top of the line
Style: Z790|WiFi 6E
I recently upgraded my gaming rig with the ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi 6E motherboard, and I must say, it's been a fantastic experience! Here's a detailed review of its features and performance: **Performance** The motherboard supports Intel's 14th, 13th, and 12th Gen processors, which means it's future-proof for a while. The PCIe 5.0 support is a game-changer, providing blazing-fast data transfer speeds for my NVMe SSDs and graphics card. The DDR5 memory support is also impressive, allowing for higher speeds and better performance compared to DDR4. **Connectivity** One of the standout features is the WiFi 6E support, which offers faster and more reliable wireless connections. The 2.5 Gb LAN is perfect for online gaming, ensuring minimal lag and quick response times. The Thunderbolt 4 support is a bonus, providing additional high-speed connectivity options for external devices. **Build Quality** The build quality of the motherboard is top-notch. The robust 18+1 power stages ensure stable power delivery, even under heavy loads. The heatsinks on the M.2 slots help keep my SSDs cool, which is crucial for maintaining peak performance. **Design** The design of the motherboard is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The translucent shrouds and RGB ignition panel give it a sleek look that fits well with my gaming setup. The Q-Release button for the PCIe slot and Q-Latch for the M.2 slots make installation and upgrades a breeze. **User-Friendly Features** The BIOS FlashBack feature is incredibly convenient, allowing for easy BIOS updates without needing a CPU or memory installed. The Clear CMOS button is also handy for resetting BIOS settings to factory defaults. The on-board LED panel displaying diagnostic codes is a great troubleshooting tool. **Pros** - **Future-Proof:** Supports Intel 14th, 13th, and 12th Gen processors. - **High-Speed Connectivity:** PCIe 5.0, WiFi 6E, and Thunderbolt 4. - **Robust Power Delivery:** 18+1 power stages and heatsinks on M.2 slots. - **User-Friendly Design:** Q-Release, Q-Latch, and BIOS FlashBack features. **Cons** - **Limited SATA Ports:** Only 4 SATA ports, which might be a limitation for some users. Overall, the ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WiFi 6E motherboard is a solid choice for gamers and enthusiasts looking for high performance and future-proofing. Its combination of cutting-edge features, excellent build quality, and user-friendly design make it a worthy investment for any high-end gaming setup. ... show more

  • Another good motherboard - a few notes
Style: Z690|WiFi 6E
This is probably my fifth or sixth Asus motherboard in many years of building my own systems. It seems to have retained the good build quality I expect from this manufacturer, and I encountered no serious problems in using it to build my new Windows 11 system. It is worth noting that, in addition to all the features listed, it has six 'native' SATA headers, four of which are RAID-compatible. Less experienced builders may want to note a couple of minor warnings: 1) The system comes with a PCI daughterboard, which accounts for two of its M2 sockets and is intended for use with high power M2 SSD Drives. The daughterboard includes very substantial heatsinks which are in close thermal contact with the installed drives and are designed to (and should) enhance the SSDs' reliability by greatly reducing their risk of overheating. There are also three other more conventional M2 sockets under shields on the motherboard itself. The screws/clips which are used to secure the M2 cards in their sockets are packed separately in small inner bags in a 'hardware' bag. The ones to be used in the daughterboard are small flat silver screws with washers; the ones to be used on the main motherboard are somewhat longer screws with black plastic clips. The screws have identical threads, so it is possible to use them in the wrong places, but this does not work well! The documentation could be clearer on this. 2) If you update the BIOS to the current version downloaded from the manufacturer's website (recommended - mine came with a very old version of the BIOS), be aware that the process takes a surprisingly long time (a few minutes). If you use the BIOS's built-in EZ-Flash program, you will be reassured by the screen displaying progress reports. If you use the 'plug in a USB drive and press the button' option, all you get is a flashing LED, and a LOT of patience is required. ... show more
