  • This router WIFI was easy to setup and works well in our apartment
One might need to set this WIFI router near the ceiling if you live in a 2-story place, but it works well for us on the ground floor and was super easy to setup. We have had it for over a month and have not had to restart it or reboot it and it's worked great! We did just try to access a new computer on it upstairs and the signal didn't travel up there good enough so we figure if we could move it closer to the ceiling (on a small shelf) or near the stairs that the signal from it would travel upstairs--we may try that. Overall, we are very happy with this item. ... show more

  • Works well but…
Works now, but I was not able to install it myself; had to get a technician in to get it done.

  • Should be Easy to set up. Careful with the Sec Key
Bought this to replace a separate modem router with Comcast ISP. My old stuff was slow. The Comcast people checked and told me the old equipment was slower than the slow speed I selected. Anyway, plugged everything in as as many have noted you have to contact Comcast to get the modem recognized. If you are like me and do this sort of thing every 4 or 5 years, this is referred to as the Gateway (I guess the modem part of the set up). Aside from 20 minutes on hold to talk to a person, this went smoothly. Then to set up the router part. The info sheet says to download the app. Guess what, If you have already disconnected your internet and router, that is not going to happen unless you have a smart phone or some other way to access the internet using WiFi. They really want you to use a laptop with an internet cable to the modem. I would say DO NOT attempt to set this stuff up without a device you can plug into the modem. It has 2 internet-ethernet ports and NO USB. I think the higher priced models do have a USB. So after a fashion and much frustration, I called the help number which gets you s rep with pretty good, not great English. I assume, from her 'help', she had a list of things to do, to try. Turn the power off then on. Try this try that. Turn the power off for 30 sec, try this, try that. Push in the reset and hold for 30 sec. Try this try that. Hold in the reset for 120 sec, try this try that. Use a laptop.....I don't have one handy. Oh, it would be easier with a laptop. I don't have one here. Oh, I see, Try this try that. After 30 minutes of that nonsense, we finally got to where I could put in a password for the router. Still did not work. then I was told I should use a laptop. Rep told me the Sec Key was the password, but hard already told me the password was password. She said when you put in the Sec Key, it had to be exactly as presented, spaces, case sensitive etc. Guess what? About that time we got cut off. Out of frustration, I deleted the app and reloaded it on my IPad. That was the answer. Who knows why it did not work before, but then I found the Sec Key would not work. Then I tried it without the spaces and BINGO. The key is letter case sensitive but no spaces. I was then able to get my FireStick working as well as Alexa, all with the SEc Key using no spaces. I checked the internet speed and it improved 50%, to what Comcast told me I had signed up for. So I assume the modem router is working as it is supposed to. Be leary of customer support and if I ever did this again, I would not attempt it without having a hardwired device to connect to the modem. ... show more

  • Decent Refurb
The modem install went smoothly. Its a low priced refurb and I work for an ISP. All I did was depressed the button reset it to factory default and install it. It came up pretty smoothly. The only negative I have is their app is super kludgy. It took forever to get the app in the app store to connect, and their website interface simply refused to acknowledge the password printed on the modem. I'm guessing it may be registered to someone else still. At any rate, I needed a second modem for the distant part of the house where I have a new TV and wanted a more closer modem. It works well for that purpose so far. ... show more

  • Not a stable Cable Modem. Don't be fooled by speed tests!
Update: This CM keeps losing connection to Xfinity. There is a known issue with this modem due to it using a specific Intel chipset for CMs. From: approvedmodemlist_dot_com/intel-puma-6-modem-list-chipset-defects/#modemlist Intel Puma 6 Defect Explained Do Not Buy Intel Puma 6 Modem List Do Not Buy Intel Chipset Modems Intel’s Puma 6 chipset included in several cable modems is defective as it allows high spikes in network latency quite often (slow web page loading, for example). These severe network latency spikes interfere with online gaming, streaming video, or simply surfing the web. Network jitter (variable latency) also causes problems. The Puma 6 modems suffer from both latency and jitter. Some firmware updates have only temporarily fixed the problem and it seems Intel has no real fix for the issue. Consequently, these bad internet connections landed cable modem maker ARRIS in trouble with a pending lawsuit filed in California. Puma 6 Defect Lawsuit The Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe law firm has begun an investigation into the issues and has filed a class action lawsuit for consumers of affected modems. If you own one of the affected modems (listed below), you can file your issues and get alerts to any possible legal action against Intel and the cable modem brands (particularly ARRIS). On the Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe Puma 6 Chipset Defect page, you can check out the full lawsuit details. On top of it losing its WAN connection whenever this happens the LAN side of the router drops out as well so you can NOT manage it. This is unacceptable. I wish I would have done more research before purchasing this CM since the return window is now closed and I am stuck with an anchor. Furthermore, this CM suffers from 3 major issues: 1) Connection to the Xfinity drops out approximately 5-6 times a week for about 5-20 mins each time. One needs to go through one or two power cycles of the CM to restore service. From the status LEDs you can see the CM has not even ranged yet. 2) The connection between PC and CM drops out. This happens about 2 times a day. Need to unplug and plug in Ethernet cable. The last issue is its week WIFI range and sporadic drops. I use both the wired and wireless connections to this CM on the "private" network side of this CM (i.e. the CPE side). Figured with the Arris name it would have performed better. My really old Xfinity CM never had these issues. I upgraded since I wanted to utilize more of the BW I was already paying for from Xfinity. May go back to older, more reliable CM at this point. If you are looking for a stable CM, where your connections are going dow everyday then my suggestion is to look elsewhere. ... show more
