  • DAMN GOOD BOOTS!
Size: 13 Color: Peanut
17 Months Later: Yeah, these are 5 star boots. I wear them daily and forget to clean and condition them more often than not. I have a pretty tame day job, but I try to make up the difference doing all the work (clearing brush, carpentry, building fence, cutting firewood, clearing more brush, burning brush piles, etc.) associated with making a neglected horse property neat and tidy. The boots are still going strong. The soles track mud into the house, but they don't slip excessively in mud, so decide whether you prefer a little bit of mud on your floors or a lot of mud all over you from falling down. The elastic gore loosened enough to slip on easily, but has held up well. I find they offer enough ankle support for my activities, but are soft enough to not cause hot spots and blisters. The leather is pretty scratched up from briars, but it broke in nicely and is not cracking. They don't get as hot as lace-up and taller pull-on work boots. I can't say anything bad about these boots based on my experience. I live in a sandy area, so the leather may not hold up as well in an area with clay based soils due to the drying action of the clay. Original Post: I received these yesterday and wanted to post my initial impressions. This is my first pair of elastic gore work boots, but I have worn both lace-up and pull-on work boots up to this point. I selected these because I wanted the fit of a lace-up boot and the convenience of a pull-on boot. I have size 13D feet in most shoes and Ariats historically fit me well. These fit as expected and are very comfortable so far. They allow my toes to spread naturally and they do not jam into the front of the toe box when walking downhill. The fit around the ankle is snug enough to prevent excessive slop in the heel, which is a great improve over pull-on work boots. The elastic gores are very stiff when you put them on out of the box, but the fit around the ankle is not uncomfortable at all once they are on. The leather is work boot leather; that means it is stiff and will need to break-in. I can feel the top edge of the leather apply pressure on my instep, but I am wearing wool hiking socks, so it isn't causing a hotspot. They are already softening, but I have no doubt that they'd rub a blister on my instep if I broke them in wearing cotton socks. The peanut color is a reddish brown like the picture. Although I am happy so far, I am only going to give these 4 stars at this time (See Above) until I see how they are holding up in about a year. On a side note, when you have size 13 feet, straight leg pants often are very snug around the leather shaft of regular pull-on boots and stack in a manner that is unflattering. I find that straight leg pants stack better with these elastic gore boots than other pull-on boots. ... show more

  • No different from any other Ariat product; exceptional.
Size: 8.5 Color: Peanut
I am very pleased with these boots. I have a pair of Ariat cowboy boots that are a bit too nice for yard work. I bought these for outdoor work around my very large property. I have a wide, wild field that gets mowed about every two weeks, and the work is very hard on boots. I was tired of wearing lace-up boots that were too hot and a pain to get on/off, and equally tired of sneakers and such getting wet or wearing out. Decided to splurge a bit and go with a good boot that I'd replace less often. If the quality of my other Ariat boots are any indication, I should be in business for years to come. These are comfortable, too. I wear an 8.5 in nearly everything, and these are no exception. Yes, they're a bit snug in the on/off process, but that will break in. They are not too tight when worn, and I wore them for about 8 hours straight yesterday with no discomfort related to the boot. They have a nice, hefty sole but are not too heavy, and are very protective without being too hot. They're also great for shop work, as no sawdust can get inside. I stomped around my creek for a while, pulling the monstrous weeds that grow alongside it, and my feet stayed dry, so long as I didn't step into the deeper parts where water would get into the elastic on the sides, so they'll definitely stay dry against wet grass. I can't wait for these to break in. Excellent work boot. ... show more

Now that I have worn these for over a year I can give a better review... keep in mind that Ariat makes shoes/ boots for country people. I.e. Farmers, and people of that profession. I am a mechanic that stands on concrete floors do 10 to 11 hours a day, with the possibility of a 200 lb. steering knuckle, or other things if that weight falling from a height of at least 3 to 5 feet on my foot. If you have the same job placement, this shoe is not for you. The reason I am writing this re-review is to ease the encombermant of your thoughts. I have worn these every day for over a year, mind you that I wear them to and from work, not at work.. they are extremely comfortable after a short break-in time. I do wear them once in a while while out on my motorcycle for a ride , and I also wear them around the camoground while camping,. Keep in mind that I have 4 dogs, so while camping I put some miles on. After more than a year I had to change/replace the insoles. Not a bad thing, just due to back and foot problems from my profession.(30) plus years on concrete. The soles are of soft composition, (this helps with everyday wear) however they will not stand up to chemicals, due to the sponginess. After a year plus.. the heel is starting to show a lot of wear, possibly due to the way I walk also. And the area where the ball of your foot would land normally while walking is a lot lower on tread. The leather composition of the outside is very stable for normal everyday use. Mine have about 6 different shades to them. Mostly from abuse and no treatment to the leather. These get a 20 star in my opinion... I will definitely order another pair soon. I think I still have some time left with these....good for work in a weak environment. Great for all around wear, can also be great for dress up. ... show more
