Arduinosoft Permawipe: Cleaning Tool to Permanently Wipe Drive Contents before Re-installation of the Operating System, Hard Drive Eraser / Wiper CD Disc Disk 32/64Bit [Windows - Linux - Mac]When most computers 'delete' a file it does not actually remove the contents of the file but rather simply unlinks the file from the file directory system, leaving the contents of the file in the disk sectors. This data will remain there until the operating system uses those sectors when writing new data. Until the old data is overwritten (and this may take months or longer) it can be recovered by programs that read disk sectors directly, such as forensic software. Your best option is to prewipe the drive before re-installation of the operating system. This disc will wipe ANY computers hard drive BEYOND any software's ability to recover the data. It can be used to wipe hard drives, flash drives, memory cards, smartphones, external hard drives and other usb mass storage devices. Meets DoD 5220.22-M Hard Drive Erase Standards - "Overwrite all addressable locations with a character, its complement, then a random character and verify"Advanced options allow for sector rewrite passes which allows the data on every sector of the drive to be rewritten and then it can perform this operation several times over with different characters to ensure complete deletion despite bad disk sectors or other issues that may be present. As advertised, the program did the job I bought it for. I still have two lap tops to clean and then dispose of. I was a little slow figuring out how to adjust the start-up sequence in the BIOS, and although the company offers help via email, two messages sent to the company have yet to be answered. I used Disk Wiper to clean the hard drive on an old Dell B110 Dimension desktop. It took about two hours to do the job. Also, I've used this product to clean up a Dell Inspiron 660s desktop. In order to clean this computer, I had to go into the Bios using the F2 key to disable the boot sequence. Rebooted the computer and started clean up.     • It works - but you need to know how to change Boot Order
Even though I am Microsoft Certified, this took a bit of work. It was not simply a matter of changing Boot Order to have the CD Drive be first. For my HP Desktop I had to hit F10 repeatedly to get to that menu. Then I had to DISABLE Smart Boot and ENABLE Legacy Support in Secure Boot Configuration. After doing this, the machine booted as needed!!!! (your machine will undoubtedly vary, so just be patient and look for something resembling this). After 65 minutes in AUTO mode, it was done!!!!     • DOES NOT WORK!
Unfortunately there is no negative star rating or I would give it. I purchased this product to wipe clean two Dell desktop computers running Windows XP so they could be donated. The instructions say to insert the CD, turn off the computer. Then turn on the computer & the wiping tool should load. It didn't. Apparently that was anticipated because the instructions then say to change the BIOS boot order to boot from the CDROM. I did and It still didn't load. No other options given, no phone number to call for help, nothing. I checked all the txt files on the CD to see if there was more information and there is not. It gives a link to www.dban.org and when I went there, that site totally disclaims any responsibility whatsover; it is totally buyer beware. This was a total ripoff in my opinion. ... show more

    • Unclear instructions. Too many variables
Did not come with good instructions at all, only one computer I used it on was appropriate for. There are way too many variables & variations for use. If you do not know the inner workings of a computer, don’t buy. I got it to work, not easy.

I'm sure I'll be able to use it, but it doesn't work on XP. It will be a valuable tool in the future I am sure.
