Description

Read more Optimised for Static Pressure During the development of the new P12 PWM PST, special emphasis was placed on a focused airstream and thus a high static pressure. The fan assures extremely efficient cooling, even with increased air resistance. Therefore, the P12 PWM PST is particularly suitable for use on heatsinks and radiators. Extended Life Span A 10 °C lower motor temperature roughly doubles the life span of a fan. The new ARCTIC motor has a four times longer service life through its low coil temperature. 200 to 1800 RPM regulated via PWM Thanks to the 4-pin connector, the RPM can be regulated in a broad spectrum via PWM. In this way, noise is kept at a minimum while maximum cooling performance is assured when needed. High Quality Bearing Thanks to an alloy/lubricant combination developed in Germany, friction within the bearing is reduced and greater efficiency is achieved. As a result, there is less heat development as well as less bearing noise, which means you can enjoy a longer service life from your fan. • Impressive Silence!
Style: P12 Silent
Update: Since writing my initial review, I purchased 5 more Arctic fans, this time the 4pin PWM PST models. I have had two of those fans develop a tick in the motor and several others have a whirr noise around 1200rpm... all in the PST PWM models. The 3 pin Silent versions are just fine. The price has also doubled since my initial review. Between the price hike and some of these noise issues with the PWM models, I find them much harder to recommend. They are now at Be Quiet Pure Wings and Noctua Redux prices. Both of those are subjectivity better. I was able to review the Arctic P12 Silence version of this fan. It is a 3 pin, fixed rpm of 1050. As someone who has purchased many cooling products based on recommendations only to be disappointed, let me say silence is subjective. I would say my bar is higher than most. I do have quite a collection of Noctua products. While I believe they are the best in the quiet department, their price tag can be a barrier to many. When I saw these Arctic fans, their price, and their reviews, I was curious. What makes a fan quiet? Some people assume it's all about rpm (speed) and any fan can be quiet if you run it slow enough. This is completely false. Bearing noise and motor noise is among the biggest causes of noise. Take the Cooler Master Fan Pro, even at 400 rpm, the bearing noise is offensive. They actually sound better at higher speeds as the air noise masks the bearing buzz. Noctua's secret sauce is their SSO bearing, which is a tuned Fluid Dynamic Bearing. These are among the quietest and usually demands a premium price. This includes both Noctua and Be Quiet! I was surprised to see that Arctic was able to put a Fluid Dynamic Bearing in a fan that cost a third of the price. What's the verdict on the Arctic P12? They are among the quietest I've heard. There is no bearing or motor noise, none! The air noise is also minimal and pleasant. Only noticeable at 10 inches or less to my ears. Matching the rpm to my collection of Noctua fans, Arctic wins in that department. The Arctics also move a comparable amount of air, but I'd give the nod to Noctua. Where does Arctic skimp out? Noctua has a sleeved cable, the P12 does not. The cable is all black, but is not sleeved. This would be a no-no in a premium fan, but is easily forgiven in a fan this price. I would also say the density and weight of the plastic is slightly below Noctua and even Thermalright. It's not poor, it's not cheap looking like OEM fans, just a step down. Most people won't notice, once the fan is installed, you won't be touching it for years anyway. Overall, the solid black scheme is attractive and will fit in most builds. My conclusion is I won't be spending more money on Noctua anytime soon. Sorry Noctua. They are an amazing product and are superior. When Arctic costs so little, paying for that difference is hard to justify. Buy Arctic for sure. Thank you for reading to the end and please help me out by pressing that helpful button. ... show more

  • 10 Fans out of 10 Have an Audiable Tone Issue at a Certain RPM Range
Style: P12 PWM PST - 5 Pack - Black/Black
The media could not be loaded. I initially ordered one 5 pack of the Arctic P12 PWM PST to get up to date with PWM controlled fans for my two 240mm radiators. These fans spin smooth and have a nice RPM range. But as I started to setup the fan curve I noticed an whining sound initially around 1170 RPM. The fans would produce a tone just under 400 Hz. At first I thought it was an issue daisy chaining four fans to one PWM header so I separated them into new pairs and adjusting the curve so it would rarely stay in the 1170 RPM range the fans were now fine... until it needed to ramp above and below 1170 RPM where you would hear it for a brief second. I thought the problem with this tone being produced was these fans are installed in the pull position, but testing it further it can happen in the push position and freely spinning with no obstruction or resistance to the fan. A ticket was opened with Arctic to bring up the problem and the solution to it was possibly the fans were defective and since I was still in Amazon's 30 day policy I should contact Amazon to get replacements. I spoke with Amazon and they were nice enough to send me a replacement first since I was still using the fans. While I was waiting for the replacements I was playing with the fan curves and found another range between 1470 to 1490 RPM that would produce the same tone just a bit louder than 1170 RPM. But each fan had it's own loudness for the 400Hz tone. Some would be pretty quiet and some would be very loud. Today the replacements arrived. I plugged them in individually. Set the PWM so they spun around that 1470 to 1490 RPM range and they all produced the same tone with the same behavior that some were louder than others. I had to play matchmaker to find the 5 best of the 10 fans to keep and send back the other 5. I might just end up getting a complete refund for these fans. If these fans didn't produce the tone I would've been happy for the amount of air being moved around vs the turbulent air noise. As mentioned at the top of the review some of these fans spin up to 1900 RPM but they all at least spin at 1800 RPM. Included in this review is a video recording of one of the fans producing the tone just under 400 Hz that starts at 0:15 until 0:27. Then for a second time starting around 0:45 until 1:04. The audio was edited for a +20 dB gain from the original recording. There is also two additional screenshots of the audio frequency graph showing the tone being produced and the not. ... show more

  • All 5 make a weird annoying humming noise at certain low RPM's
Style: P12 PWM PST - 5 Pack - Black/Black
I really wanted to like these. Great price, great PWM fans. But after about a month, they all developed a weird humming noise, but only at certain RPM's. It was very faint, but annoying. I unplugged them, leaving one plugged in and a time, and sure enough, all of them do it. When they were all unplugged the noise went away, so I know it's not my gpu or cpu causing the issue. I'm going to contact artic and see if they will replace. *UPDATE* 5-30-19* I contacted them and they want me to pay to ship them back. So I will be weeks with out case fans, and pay half as much to ship as they cost. Not worth it. I would steer clear of these. ... show more
