  • It's Marvel time baby!
I was one of the many who discovered MCV2 was back in it's arcade glory too late. By the time I found out that Arcade1up had made some, they were sold out and finding them on the 3rd market was a pricy endeavor. So when I heard that they were re-releasing a deluxe version with the X-Men '97 theme I knew this was my opportunity to finally have a MCV2 arcade cabinet in my house! The directions to build the cabinet are fairly simple to follow. They do a good job of showing what you need to do and the direction the parts need to be facing. I only got really confused once, but my wife figured it out and we were easily able to put this together. The board doesn't need a deck protector, I guess, according to the sticker attached to it, but I think I would have preferred one in case of scratches or spills, but it's not a deal breaker for me. What I was most impressed with was how much better the joysticks and buttons feel! They feel so much more responsive than the Mortal Kombat sticks and buttons I tried out at my local Best Buy. I thought I was going to have to replace them for sure, but I like them and I think I'll keep the factory installed buttons for a while and keep my replacements as emergency back-ups. My player one joystick was missing it's threading, so the joystick head doesn't screw on, so it's not attach fully, but I've already heard back from Arcade1up and it sounds like they're going to make it right. I'll update my review depending on how they officially respond, but so far, so good. For an in-home arcade unit it's exactly as large as it needs to be. It doesn't take up a ton of space, but allows two grown people to stand side-by-side and have the real arcade experience in home. I was concerned that the lack of riser would be an issue for me because I'm so tall, but the unit has a good height without it. I still require a stool to play though, I'm 6'5", so the world was not designed with my height in mind, I've come to accept this. Overall impressions, the is a critical hit to the nostalgia bone. I will be playing a game at home that I spent hours and hours and Lord knows how many rolls of quarters on with my kids. And that's something that a video game on a console just can't provide, that real arcade experience. I love this unit and I'm excited to start modding it as well. They give you all the space you need inside to add whatever your heart may desire. So I'm going to be going mad scientist on this unit, but for now I'm loving it just the way it is. If your a fan a Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 in the arcade, I can't recommend this enough. If you're not a MVC2 fan... what are you even doing here? I mean, hi, and you should try it out, but why are you reading this, go try out the game somewhere and come back! Peace! ... show more

  • Awesome gift
It looks amazing all set up! My only problem is the extremely loud start up noise it makes regardless of what volume you left the system at when you turned it off. Had a few hitches with set up but I think it was due to user error of trying to do it alone at a late hour without making much noise.

  • This is how you do retro gaming
Bought this for myself as a birthday present, pre-ordered about three months in advance. Once it came home, I was immediately like a kid again. Assembly was like building IKEA furniture, so pretty quick. Built mine in about three hours. This is my first arcade1up cabinet and it's like being a kid again in the late 90's arcades. No hyperbole, my morning ritual has become drinking a cup of coffee and playing at least 15mins before work. Even help mend fences with a family member after some righteous Xmen vs Street Fighter a** kicking. It's easily become my favorite grown up toy in the house. Online play is a whole other story. Prepare for some absolute beatings. ... show more

  • A dream to own
Always wanted an Arcade machine and I'm glad this was my first. Assembly was a little long but worth it. The games are awesome with a great variety. You can even enable retro scanlines. Glad I bought it! Excited to own it forever.

  • First Arcade 1Up cabinet, not too shabby but has some areas for improvement
So this is my first foray into Arcade 1Up after a bad experience with trying to do my own bartop unit. The cabinet has some nice-looking artwork from the X-Men '97 show on Disney+ and the included games cover the breadth of Capcom's Marvel collaboration prior to the disappearance of the Vs. series of games until 2011's Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Also included are two side-scrolling action games from the Super NES to fill out the roster and all the fighting games have online play (although maybe consider wiring the cabinet over Ethernet than rely on wifi as the integrated wifi is only capable of 2.4 GHz - the only time I tried to go online was absolutely unplayable). I kind of wish this had the option for the Japanese version of Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (in order to play as Japan-exclusive character Norimaro) and/or modified versions of the arcade games that let you play as boss or hidden characters (such as Thanos or Anita in Marvel Super Heroes) but I can understand why this wasn't done (Norimaro is tied up with a myriad of licensing issues, which is why the international version of MSHvSF dropped him entirely). The display is a nice, square panel with some vibrant colors and the audio is really loud (I was surprised, I was expecting something rather tinny). A1U did away with the deck cover for the control deck and claims that their new cover-less deck resists wear about as well as a covered deck but frankly it just seems like a cost-cutting measure so don't expect it to hold up as well as if it it had the plastic deck cover over it. At least for me the cabinet is basically the perfect height (I'm about 5'8") even without the optional riser, which I wasn't expecting (and using the riser would raise it up too much for my purposes). The lighted marquee is a nice touch but I feel like the actual marquee is a little boring and if you look at mine closely it has some patches on it that make it look like a poor lamination job. Questionable quality with that. The buttons and sticks are...okay, fine enough for casual gamers who may not have spent a lot of time in an arcade back in the day but, honestly, they could be a lot better. If you've got a mind for quality I'd definitely suggest swapping them out for more custom arcade hardware (the Arcade 1Up modding scene is pretty large so there are a number of guides and custom products to facilitate this). The stock buttons feel insubstantial with a weak bottom-out while the stick is decent but has an air of vagueness to it that can interfere with rapid movements. Also with the lack of internals compared to a real arcade unit the cabinet has a tendency to be floaty and will jiggle around during an intense session (and MvC2 can be a very intense game). Either use the wall straps that come in the box or consider getting some kind of weighting for the base (I've heard sandbags do the job). Assembling the cabinet isn't a long process, exactly, but it would really help if you can have a second set of hands at certain times. I would also say certain instructions feel like they would have been better performed in a different order or different way (to make solo assembly less tenuous). There are also some diagrams that could have used more extensive description (such as inserting the alignment dowels; having a view of the side of the piece to relate the 'X' marks to what they are pointing to more clearly). Probably my least favorite aspect of this cabinet is the faux-coin mech on the front. No effort was put into this thing so it's just a piece of plastic that screws onto the front. The coin reject buttons aren't illuminated, do not push in, the coin slots have no depth (just solid recessions), and there aren't any fake reject bays with flaps. Aside from lighting the buttons (which itself is hardly a huge ask) the lack of simple things like spring-loaded reject buttons and a small space behind each reject flap feels way too cheap for me. I think you CAN illuminate the "buttons" as I think they are translucent from the other side but, still, I so wish for a mod that would just add these elements properly (no electronics needed, just some small pieces and a bit of depth). As for the single BEST thing about this unit (and certain other A1Us) that goes to the underlying operating environment. This cabinet's hardware runs on Android, meaning there are a wealth of things you can add to the cabinet if you have a desire to broaden the versatility of your unit without just gutting it and replacing the internals with something different. I'll leave it to you to figure out what those applications can be but certainly I would mark that down as the biggest point of recommendation from me. The hardware isn't the punchiest thing you could hope for but there are definitely things it's capable of with its stock PCB so definitely consider doing so. So is it worth $500? I'd say yes. I think A1U still has some quality issues to sort out, both in terms of production and the "of life" variety, but it's still a good package all around. I probably would not have bought this had I not been aware of the OS so if you're not interested in modifying it from the stock configuration you should ask yourself if you cherish the included games enough to have this in your house. However if you are interested in going beyond what ships to you then I totally say do it because the possibilities therein can make the rest of the package come together (and, of course, down the line if you do decide you need more than just what the base platform can provide there are mods that will take your setup far beyond its core Android roots). ... show more

  • This unit rocks!
This is the first arcade machine that I have purchased. I am not disappointed. It was easy to build and very impressive even when it isn't on. I got it delivered as promised and I can't praise it enough, I missed out on the MvC2 unit that came out a while ago. But, I don't care about that now! Great machine, great games and awesome memories!!! ... show more
