Description

Aquarium Plants is overflowing with full-color photographs—over 300 in all—that bring the many beautiful plants in this book to life. Author Peter Hiscock, an expert in aquascaping and fish keeping, begins with an animated science lesson on how plants grow, giving readers a quick background that to help them improve their aquatic green thumbs. The text addresses such vital topics as water quality, use of substrates, choosing healthy plants, and planting techniques, offering aquarists all the information they need to know to establish a well-planted, vibrant aquarium. In the chapter on lighting, the author has provided lists of plants that thrive in low, moderate, bright, and very bright light and explains the differing effects of light on plants. Aquarium Plants offers essential information on feeding plants, propagating plants, keeping plants healthy and choosing fish. Creative aquarists will welcome the sections on designing the aquarium, using various elements of display, and creating a themed tank (such as an African theme or a cold or hard water aquarium). The section “Popular Aquarium Plants” recommends specific plants for different areas of the aquarium, including background, foreground, midground, and floating plants. For each, the author offers dozens of options, all of which are represented by color photographs. Read more

  • Genial pero
Tiene buena información útil, la forma de presentar la información es dinámica, y creatividad. Pero siento que hace falta más fotografías para identificar todas las especies

  • How to take care of plants
Good information

  • Good book for beginners or as a refresher
For a beginner, it gives you enough information to get started with by covering topics like, why live plants are beneficial, how they help control byproducts of keeping tropical fish such as nitrates (product of decaying fish waste), why you should be using aquatic fertilizers for healthy aquatic plants, even a few design themes for arranging aquarium decorations and plants for a somewhat natural environment for the area your fish originated from. For myself, it was a good refresher after being away from the aquatic lifestyle for 15 years. Are there better books out there on the subject of aquatic plants? Yes, definitely. But not in the same price range. Do I regret buying this book? Nope. Not at all. ... show more

  • Informative but more for those new to the hobby
A lot of good information but the lighting section is outdated since it talked about the old tube style fixtures

  • Comprehensive reference!
I just purchased a new 75 gallon aquarium. For the first time, I wanted to have only live plants with my tropical fish. This book was a great reference, I took it to the shops and used it to make smarter purchases than I would have made without it. I did spend about $250 on plants, fertilizer, lighting, and special plant friendly substrate. My tank looks simply fabulous. And after four weeks, my plants are thriving. Using this book is the way to do it. ... show more

  • Great info!
Loved the book. Info is excellent.

  • Not a good book
The book provides very little information. It has very basic and limited information about aquarium plants. All the information in the book is what is already common knowledge to people who engaged in planting aquarium plants, with one exception. The book contained detailed specification on the water quality of certain plants. The specification indicated GH and KH requirements of individual plants which is nice. But this information was limited to a few plants. In sum, I would not recommend this book. ... show more
