This sand is everything they say it is. It's a natural white like Gulf Shores sand. I guess some people are complaining it isn't blinding white but it's exactly what I was hoping for- and very little dust. I honestly just dumped it into a tank I was letting sit for 2 weeks before introducing fish and there was almost nothing to see as far as stuff that needed to be rinsed first. This sand is very fine and comes wet with water, so it is a very heavy product to ship by mail. I have had some of them broken open before it got to me, others have arrived just fine. It does help the fish tank get started and looks nice also.

    • BEST SUBSTRATE EVER!

So I had to set up a temporary molly fry tank last minute. Usually I just get the regular sand for my tanks but I needed this tank to cycle as quickly and efficiently as possible since the fry would be in there. I obviously didn't expect it to cycle overnight or anything as I'm not that naïve. But this substrate definitely quickened the process and everyone survived and was rehomed. It now has 2 fish in it permanently with a couple of snails. The snails bury themselves in the sand when they sleep. I love that the sand doesn't cloud the water even when it gets stirred up from cleaning or moving decor around. Also like that it seems to help keep ammonia/nitrites down which would normally be hard to do with about 50 fry in a brand new tank. I do a 25-50% water change every 1 week on my tanks but I've found that I can go longer without doing one with this tank and it's the only one with this sand in it. It might be a little bit more expensive but it made starting up/cyling a new tank so much easier and faster. This tanks been running for a month with no problems. I am starting a planted nano aquarium for the first time and decided to buy this substrate to help set it up. I followed what other's recommended and covered the sand in plastic (I used a piece of cling wrap or Reynolds wrap) before I added the water and had little to no clouding. However, my plants arrived today and I had not added enough substrate so I had to add some with the tank nearly full of water so I did get some clouding from that. There were little gas bubbles released from the substrate as I was moving things around (I assume Nitrogen bubbles) and I take that as a good sign. The plants have been added for only a few hours and are already looking very perky. Happy so far. ... show more
