Our meticulously graded gravels and sands are the perfect natural substrates for any aquarium including planted tanks. Our high quality products create natural beauty combined with large surface areas for beneficial bacteria colonies and easy cleaning. Contains bio activated live nitrifying bacteria to either use as a primary substrate or mix with substrate for a healthy aquarium. Contains a patented blend of live nitrosomas and nitrobacter bacteria which break down and convert harmful ammonia, into nitrates.

I am starting a planted nano aquarium for the first time and decided to buy this substrate to help set it up. I followed what other's recommended and covered the sand in plastic (I used a piece of cling wrap or Reynolds wrap) before I added the water and had little to no clouding. However, my plants arrived today and I had not added enough substrate so I had to add some with the tank nearly full of water so I did get some clouding from that. There were little gas bubbles released from the substrate as I was moving things around (I assume Nitrogen bubbles) and I take that as a good sign. The plants have been added for only a few hours and are already looking very perky. Happy so far. ... show more

This stuff looks great and, although dusty when poured, it's otherwise clean. Uniform and color, size, and texture. The only thing, don't count on it staying prestine with messy fish. I should have anticipated that. :)

This sand is very fine and comes wet with water, so it is a very heavy product to ship by mail. I have had some of them broken open before it got to me, others have arrived just fine. It does help the fish tank get started and looks nice also.

Clean, rich sand in a beautiful, natural color. No rinsing necessary. I put the 5 pounds in my 5-gallon aquarium and it's perfect. It anchors the living plants very well.

This sand is everything they say it is. It's a natural white like Gulf Shores sand. I guess some people are complaining it isn't blinding white but it's exactly what I was hoping for- and very little dust. I honestly just dumped it into a tank I was letting sit for 2 weeks before introducing fish and there was almost nothing to see as far as stuff that needed to be rinsed first. The media could not be loaded. Not as much in the bag as i was hoping. Very soft, the color is gorgeous. Its not easy to clean though. Very hard to.. Its super expensive considering what you get though. Would not recommend getting a smaller size. My tank is a 10 gal and it did not cover it at all. Only covered half of it ... show more
