Comparing this against my Redington 5-piece "travel" rod, I can say that this little guy is definitely more handy and quicker to get out on the water than others. It has standard reel compatibility, and was able to hook my Zero reel up to it in less than a moment, and despite being a 5wt fast-action, I found it pretty pleasurable to use. I can't wait until the rivers open up near me, because this is going to find a new home kicking around in my Jeep for those days when my schedule lines up juuuust right to afford a pitstop on the way through the mountains. ... show more

Love that this rod is easy to break down and pack away making it very portable and perfect to have packed away in my car for those random fishing stops. When full extended you get a nice lightweight rod that has a solid feel to it yet can easily pick up the slightest action

I am very very impressed with the quality of this rod. The metal part of the handle is solid and the rings have a rubber gasket. The cork is natural cork. The finish on the rod itself is beautiful. Unfortunately, the ice is coming in and most streams are closed til April. I won't be able to give it a full test until then. I look forward to using it. The compact size will prove very helpful, especially when walking through bushy terrain. I can have it rigged and just compress the rod while going through bushes. ... show more

I am an avid bass fisherman and fish all the time. I have a few co-workers that are big into fly fishing and have been trying to get me into it too. I ordered this telescoping travel rod as my first fly fishing equipment and asked them to look it over and they have informed me that it is a really nice rod for the price point and will work very well for me to get started with. I'm no expert on fishing rods, but have been trying to put together a basic fly-fishing setup. As far as I can tell, this rod should do just fine for me, without having involved a large investment in some sort of "finer" rod that wouldn't mean anything to me. The rod is nicely constructed, machined, and finished; I found no obvious flaws. It extends and collapses easily, and the sections stay in place when extended. It flexes smoothly when casting. A heavy plastic end cover keeps the rod collapsed and protected, and is held in place with an attached stretchy strap. There's a light storage bag, and if you're going cheap to start with, the cardboard tube it shipped in is very heavy, and will serve as a case for a while. Spray it with some paint for waterproofing, and wrap the end with enough tape so that the end cap stays on well with a friction fit, and you'll be all set. ... show more

I was looking for a shorter fly rod that I could fish streams and ponds that have trees around them. My 9 ft rod is a little difficult to fish in tight areas and gets hung up. This rod fit the bill. It is light, well balanced and has an aluminum reel seat. The cork handle is comparable to other rods I have. I love the telescopic feature.
