  • Works great.
The thermostat went out on my water heater and try to find a plumber to do the job. So I bought this because I was going to have to wait anyhow. I ended up installing it myself. It fit perfectly, everything lined up great and it works as advertised.

  • We have hot water again
After a good cleaning under the burner assembly, and replacing the pilot assembly, and still not able to keep the pilot lit, I tried replacing with this valve. After being without hot water for several days, the valve arrived, only to discover during installation that the threads for the copper pilot line weren't right. Correct size, but the connector would only screw in crooked, and therefore would leak gas. It was like they had been previously cross-threaded. Amazon quickly sent out a replacement. It showed up two days later, installed without issue, and voila! It has worked flawlessly for a couple of weeks. Where I live, there is no local company that will sell you appliace parts if you're not a contractor. While same-day isn't an option, being able to purchase thid from Amazon saved me hundreds of dollars having to hire a repair person. ... show more

  • Direct replacement
My water started getting hotter and hotter. I turned down the temp on the control valve and slowly the temp just kept getting hotter. I found this replacement valve. There are plenty of videos for how to change it. Works like a charm. 6 months in service and my water heater is still working like it should. This is way cheaper than a new water heater. ... show more

  • Purring like a kitten
Seems like a 1:1 replacement for Honeywell WV...1158. Pilot light took some time to get lit but once it did - everything worked as it should. If your water heater stops producing water, you get the 4 blinking Temperature cutoff lights intermittently, and you have to keep relighting - its your gas valve. At the end, my valve stopped lighting the pilot all together when I let go of the pilot button - it would shut off. My light then never came back on when the pilot was held and thermocouple was heated (producing voltage). This replacement fixed all that. It looked like it even came with some teflon paint on the threads - but I gave'r an extra wrap with tape to make sure. • Works great!
This is the new version of the old Honeywell setup that came factory on my AO Smith heater. This new one has been working great. Hope to get another 5 or hopefully more years from it!

  • Product failed
I purchased the gas control valve in December, had it installed in mid January. It failed to regulate the temperature of the water in the tank, causing it to oveheat and drip from the tube. Plumber came and said that the water was too hot, heater kept running, and that it could be a safety hazard. Amazon said that the return period was over by 2 weeks and that I should call AO Smith because it should be under warranty. AO Smith indicated that since I purchased this item from Amazon, that it is not covered by the warranty. I will be cancelling my Amazon Prime account. ... show more

  • Almost perfect
I installed this yesterday, and it is working perfectly. That being said, the neck on this particular control (the part that screws into the tank) is an easy inch longer than the one it replaced. I didn't notice that because the old unit was screwed in. I decided to install it anyway. It works great, but that extra inch caused the cover not to fit correctly. ... show more

  • Do it yourself
This Honeywell control valve went out on my Mom's hot water heater. This item was a direct replacement. I watched a YouTube video on how to replace it and found the install to be very simple. In my research, I found out that this item is very problematic with the industry and many people and plumbers are frustrated. I also found through a web search that this item has been recalled. I tried calling Honeywell and all you get is a very long lasting musical message and never got an opportunity to speak to someone. For the cost of the this item, it is a fairly cheap replacement considering that the hot water heater is only 3-1/2 years old and in very good condition. This item also shipped very fast. Im Happy! ... show more
