Not a bad reel, could be lighter, could also come with a nicer drag system but guess what? It works! Comes with decent line and leader prespooled and ready to go. In the future I'll buy a nicer reel from echo,orvis etc and keep this on a loaner rod for my kids!     • Not reversible for opposite hand retrieve.
I have a couple of very lightweight small stream fly rods. This 1/2 wt reel balances with them perfectly. Smooth reeling, has a adjustable drag, but the click assembly, while accessible, is not reversible. It's something that I don't think was ever noted in the description or specs. Arrived on time

    • Right hand setup and poor knots

First off, it’s right hand retrieve setup. Why? I wasn’t expecting that and didn’t have anything to unwind to to make the change so I fished the day with the wrong setup. Next thing I noticed is the knot for the line to the leader. I knew it wasn’t a loop and I’d cut it if it was anyway but it only had three turns and very large tag ends that really needed trimming. So I had to cut and tie a better knot. As for being a reel, it’s pretty and holds line. The tensioner works. There’s not much else to a reel so works for me and I’m so far quite happy with it after a day of bass fishing on the lake. Line and leader seem fine for me. I fish for bass and didn’t get any big bites so it held and cast well. No complaints but I don’t have experience with the “good stuff” to compare. The problems weren’t a big deal but you need to know what you’re doing and it’s advertised as already setup which it isn’t and that’s the only reason I docked a star. If the package said it wasn’t setup and everything was in packages I’d easily rate it 5 stars. ... show more

I have to admit that I’d give this a 5 star rating any time…This is a great reel! My rating (4 stars) the 3/4 ANGLER DREAM AnglerDream, I think is to all of these “large arbor” reels and directed to the industry as a whole- world wide. It seems that the fly line itself is bunched, really packed tight on the spool…and, the SA 4wt line I put on the spool, I noticed it filling the reel to the fullest. And due to this, I’m wondering if I should have clipped off some fly line on the back side before I attached to the backing itself. Thus leaving a little more room altogether for rewinding. The light blue line that I replaced- didn't seem as long as the SA 4wt. In fact to save I rewound the blue fly line that came with this reel to the empty SA 4wt spool, I found that it was not filling up the spool. I had to convert this reel to left hand wind...really no problem, but it would have added class to these reels if one could choose left or right hand wind from the get-go from the Amazon Dot Com Nation. Now with that being said, all the years I’ve fished, I’ve never let a trout take me to my backing. That’s just me when I’ve fished. Bring ‘em in.. admire the catch, then release. Enough of the fly reel industry comment…I purchased this reel as an update to my small reel collection. Something new from the industry itself…I fish small streams and love my 4wt rods, including a bamboo rod. Also, through our TU club, we have, at times- Saturday morning “Meet-Ups” for Casting Tournaments. Yep, I cast to targets when not on the streams. Practice my stroke and socialize. I almost returned this reel because the screw securing the one-way bearing is bolted down as tight as possible, and it stripped. I don't feel like I forced it, nor did I use the wrong size screwdriver. I think it's just a cheap zinc screw, but maybe that's just my pride talking. Luckily for me, and to the dismay of many others it seems, the reel is already right hand retrieve. I was expecting to have to put the backing, line, and leader on myself, so that's nice. I'm not expecting the world from this thing, but they should fix that, as most people are left hand retrieve. If the reel was twice the price, this would be a 1 star review. It was cheap, it saved me a lot of hassle, it arrived incredibly quickly. ... show more

The reel works well, but it came as a right hand retrieve. Changing to LHR was not very easy. I had to completely disassemble the reel and it was pretty tough to get the reel back together. I am a mechanical engineer by trade, so its safe to say I am pretty handy. I did get it switched and put back together and now the reel works fantastic. Be aware that if you are not very handy, this could be a tedious project. ... show more
