I love this book. The pictures are awesome or atleast most of them are. Theres alot of great information in it and theres photos to show what they explaining in a good portion of the book. The only thing bad is its a little dated so some of the information has changed since now we have more ability to study the fish.     • Best book on aquarium fishes
This is the best book on aquarium fishes I have ever seen. It covers 700 species, each illustrated with a nice color photo. For each species, family name, common name, scientific name, size, distribution, temperature range, pH range, dH range, food preference and a brief description are given. The information given is very accurate. For example, I did not know that the red-tailed sharks are mean when they get old. Few books mentioned water hardness. This book gives dH value for every species. Only now I understand why swordtails did not live very long in my area. I highly recommend this book. ... show more

This book is definitely not the best book available for newbie aquarists as it highlights a great many fish that it would be unlikely a person new to the hobby would ever be able to keep or even find available. That being said, the material is well written and the descriptions are more than adequate. Not a great book, but a good book for more seasoned aquarists to own. ... show more

High quality book with excellent pictures and general information. Nice reference book to have. There are many other specialized books out there but this is a nice general all around fish guide.
