Top Amazon Reviews

  • Top notch quality camera and light that is easy to setup and use
1) I installed the light myself, replacing an existing motion-sensor light. The physical install was really easy. I could have used 2 or 3 extra inches on the power wires for my particular install, but the length they were would typically be fine for most installs. Once it was powered up, I was able to see it and pair it with the app pretty quickly. I didn't run into any issues at all during the physical or wireless setup. Please note that I am a computer tech by trade and I do much more complicated installs of equipment regularly. Regardless, I thought the steps were very easy and even someone with limited technical ability should be able to complete the setup. 2) I found the metal body of the lights to be very sturdy and strong. Much better than I expected. I found the lights to be easy to adjust and then secure in place. I appreciate that the LEDS are on the warmer side (3000K to 3500K light). I do not personally like the stark 5000K LED light so having warm LEDs is a big plus for me. The amount of light produced by the LEDs is great. I live in the country and it lights up the area very well. In fact they are bright enough that I would be a bit worried they would be too bright if installed in a small back yard in a city neighborhood. The picture of the lights on Amazon is misleading as they appear to have a frosted lens while the model I received has a clear lens so you can see the LED diods. Doesn't affect how the light works though. 3) I was disappointed that the camera housing is plastic. I hope that will holdup with time. The camera quality though is great for a 1080 resolution camera. Very clear and sharp. The night vision is also sufficient, though I think the IR range could be better for my rural install since it's a large area. It would be fine for a typical home install. I did install an SD card for recording, which was easy to do. I did find that the microSD port was "backward" from what I expected. Typically the contacts are away from you when a card is inserted. Just an observation. 4) I have found the Smart Home app to be very easy to use and pretty responsive on my phone (Google Pixel 3). I was able to find most of the features I needed. I was a bit confused about setting up recording on motion only, but did eventually figure that out. I do have two gripes about the app. The first is that when I am playing back a recording I have not found a way to play the file at faster speed, fast-forward it or to "scrub" through the video. This makes if very cumbersome to review footage. I can do these things if I download the file to my phone or access it from the microSD on a computer. Not convenient to do when quickly looking at recordings though. The second complaint about the app is that it was not at all intuitive as to where a downloaded video file was located once it was downloaded. I had to fumble around until I found it on the main menu of the app. Once I was there though, I could then do what I wanted to with it. 5) I use several other Amcrest cameras around my house with the Amcrest Surveillance Pro software. I was able to search for and easily add this camera in to the Surveillance Pro software on my PC with no problem. 6) Overall, the camera and light are top notch and I have no major complaints! ... show more

  • Lights are defective!
UPDATE 5/5/2021: I am still waiting for a resolution/replacement from Amcrest after 25 days of trying to get a resolution from Customer Service for a replacement unit that was defective out of the box! A unit they admit is defective! Not to mention, I have been without a working security light in this location since February due to their slooooooow CS and several defective replacement units. Their CS has been a nightmare with only one part-time customer rep (Bryan) who admittedly does other projects and does not get back to you for over a week sometimes. Then, if you’re lucky enough to proceed to their RMA department, the RMA contact doesn’t bother to read the history of your ticket and you get a generic unresolved response after waiting several more days and it just goes on and on. There is NO customer service phone number so no other way to get immediate help when things are not getting resolved for weeks or you have a more complex issue. I am so disappointed in this untested and poorly manufactured Amcrest product and I’ve been a loyal Amcrest customer for many years with a dozen of their cameras. My advice is don’t purchase an important piece of home equipment from a company that does not have a dedicated customer service phone number. UPDATE 4/12/2021: One of replacement foodcams Amcrest sent has a built-in software issue preventing me from adding the device to the smarthome app. They told me I would need another replacement. This is 4th floodcam needing replacement and the 2nd one having an issue right out of the box. UPDATE 4/6/2021: Amcrest replaced the two defective lights and apparently they also have a way to send replacements before having to send back the defective ones - you just have to get the right support tech via email. AJ is clearly their best. They also just updated the inefficient playback function in their AmcrestView app after years of nothing, but their SmartHome app still has the contradictory motion detection setting. UPDATE 2/19/2021: 2 out of 3 of my units malfunctioned after only a few months! On one, the lights stay on indefinitely, you can’t turn them off, not even manually. On the other, the lights no longer turn on, neither with motion nor manually. Shipping them back is $15 each (must use Amcrest label) and they won’t send a new one before they receive the old ones back. So if you didn’t install the cams yourself, plan on hiring an electrician to come twice - once to uninstall and once to reinstall. I regret not purchasing a Ring. Amcrest devices are not as well designed and their software is buggy and almost never updated! Original Review: I have a half dozen amcrest indoor cameras. I loved them because of the number of customizable controls and not having to use a cloud service to view my footage. I bought 3 of these floodlight cams. Installation was a breeze and the lights are super bright with a nice slightly warm color LED. Unfortunately, the response time when trying to view live video is a slow. Takes 10 seconds to 30 seconds just to bring up the live feed. And that’s when it’s working. My Amcrest IP cameras take 3-5 seconds and are much more reliable. The other problem is these floods have no diffuser (there is just a clear lens over the leds) and there is no dimming feature, so they are blinding! This is great if you are pointing at an empty yard with no other homes in site, but if pointed anywhere within 50 feet of a neighbor’s window or around a patio where people congregate, it’s a problem. I replaced a coach light on my fairly large patio with this flood cam. It is installed about 8 feet high, but we can’t have the spots turned-on while being on the patio without being blinded by glare. They really should have thought about either including a brightness adjustment in the app or at least used frosted plexi over the lights instead of clear ones. For customers with existing Amcrest cameras that do not use SmartHome.... you can’t add them to the SmartHome app. Apparently it will brick the old camera. So essentially you need to use two different apps to control all your Amcrest cams. Amcrest said they prevented older cameras from being added to SmartHome once realizing there were serious software compatibility issues. So they made a big mistake and instead of finding a way to fix it, they threw their hands up and said our IP cam users are just SOL. And while you can view this floodcam in their old app (AmcrestViewPro) along with the older cams, you lose the ability to control several features. The SmartHome app lacks a few key features as well - no playback speed control or button to jump ahead a few seconds. No downloading partial footage - you need to download the entire video segment, then edit it yourself once downloaded. Also, no setting your own threshold or setting different sensitivities for certain zones. This floodcam Is currently a cheaper alternative to ring, especially if you use an sdcard. However, not by much considering their are a lot of defective amcrest units - look at the reviews. I wish I bought Ring cams. My neighbor has them. They are so much smaller and sleeker, produce just as much light without the glare, and their software is seamless. Also, you actually have real expedient customer service, unlike waiting for Amcrest CS to get back to you for weeks! ... show more
