  • Great device with all the benefits of a floodlight and a security camera in one
This is a great combo device which allows you to easily replace an existing outdoor floodlight with a smart device that provides motion detection and recording capabilities. Installation Installation is super quick and easy, even for someone with little experience working with electrical wires (assuming you are replacing an existing light like I did). The provided hooks for holding up the light (I've included a picture) while you connect the wires were absolutely amazing (if you've never had to wire up a light while holding it at the same time, trust me that it's extremely annoying). This is one of the easier wiring installations I've done, mainly because it wires up exactly the same as a standard light (this also means if you're uncomfortable with the install, there are tons of videos you can find that walk through the installation of a light). One note which may be obvious to many but momentarily caught me off guard: when you turn back on the breaker and flip on the light switch, the actual light bulbs won't light up right away since you still need to configure the light (you do need to flip on the light switch to send power though). There's an indicator light on the front of the camera that will light up when it has power, and the camera will play an audio message when the device is ready to configure. Configuration All configuration is done via the Amcrest Smart Home app, which is easy to install and setup. Note for Kindle Fire users: the only app I could find in the Amazon App Store was Amcrest View Pro which works fine for video but doesn't allow you to control the lights; however, if you install the Android Play Store (there are guides out there), you can install Amcrest Smart Home that way. You add the camera to the app by scanning the QR code on the side (so don't put your ladder away yet) and the app walks you though the whole process. There are a ton of different options in the app for configuring scheduling, motion detection, when to enable the light (manual, motion, schedule), video quality, etc. Amcrest provides a free year trial of cloud storage, which was a nice surprise. If you don't plan on using their cloud storage, you'll either want to put an SD card into the device to locally record or set up the camera to record somewhere else (it was easy to add this to Surveillance Station on a Synology NAS). The tool for drawing out the motion capture area is slick and works really well (I've included a picture). Usage After using the device for several days, I settled on a good mix of settings that work well for everyday use with little to no ongoing maintenance or configuration: I have the light set to turn on with motion (except when it's light out), it only records when there's motion, motion detection is limited to just my deck and doesn't include nearby bushes (heavy winds can set off motion detection if things are blowing around), and it saves to both Amcrest Cloud Storage and my local Synology NAS. It's a little annoying that my light switch is no longer usable and needs to be kept in the on position always (I may actually remove the switch and just make the camera always-on); it'd be cool if the camera had a way to still support using the light switch to manually turn on/off the light but that would obviously complicate the installation process. We are an Alexa household and the camera works pretty well with Alexa (it's a little slow to appear when you ask to see it - takes 5 to 10 seconds to show up on Fire TV/Echo Show). There's currently no way to control the lights via Alexa, which I was originally annoyed by but I haven't found myself needing it based on how quickly it turns on to motion (when my dog goes outside it turns on within a couple of steps). Video quality is solid in both daylight and with night vision (I've included picture of both). Probably one of my family's favorite benefits of this device is that it lets us know (via app notification) when my dog has returned from doing his business in the backyard so we can let him in (which is much nicer than the previous solution of him barking at us). Obviously, the app won't work for you device if your internet goes out for some reason (or if Amcrest's servers go down), which means you won't be able to control the lights if they're set to manual mode or record to Amcrest's cloud server; however, if they are set to motion and you are recording to a local server (like the Synology NAS) most things should continue to work fine. Final thoughts Overall I'm super pleased with this device and I am sold on Amcrest products. After the first bit of time of dialing in the configurations (or as my wife would say, playing with my new toy), I haven't found myself needing to do much with it. ... show more

  • Exceptional Floodlight
Alright, I’ve been using Amcrest products for several years now and let me tell you that with this floodlight camera, I am blown away. I love this thing so much and am so glad I got one. It was pretty simple to use, and I’m not an electrician by any means. Literally all I had to do was shut off the breaker, attach the wires to the electrical box, and that’s about it. Instructions provided were very simple to understand and the installation of the product took maybe 15 minutes. Once that was done, follow the setup instructions on your phone and bam, done. This thing has so many customizations and features. The light itself is extremely bright and lit up my entire deck which was awesome. The fact that it uses LED bulbs means it’s bright and doesn’t consume a lot of power. I was able to adjust the lights to the proper angle and love the fact that I can set the lights to come on manually or with the motion detection. Amcrest has the awesome feature that allows you to choose what part of the camera view is included in the motion detection. Basically, the camera shows everything in view and I can choose what part of the view is included in the motion detection and what isn’t. This is so cool because it allowed me to only detect motion on my deck and not down on the lawn where pets may be. It also has a 2-way radio that allows me to talk/hear what is being said from the device itself back to my phone. I can open the app and immediately view the camera at anytime so I can always know what is going on at home even when I’m not physically there. Peace of mind right there. I love the fact that it also has a siren that can be activated if it sees motion at a certain time in location. It is very loud and would definitely scare off any intruder. At any point in time, I can take a screenshot or video of what is happening in real time for my records in case I need them, and Amcrest also gives you the option to either have a copy of what is recorded saved to the cloud, or even backed up on a micro-SD card so that in the event you need to obtain or review footage it is there for you. If you have other Amcrest products, everything is incorporated in the app and works perfectly. They literally thought of everything when they made this product. The camera is crystal clear as well and you have no problem seeing anything that’s going on, as it happens. One downside I can see is that it doesn’t appear that you can adjust the camera angle. I am able to adjust the camera up and down, but it doesn’t seem as though I can adjust it from side to side which is a little annoying because I have to put it where the electrical box is and if certain things aren’t within the sight of the camera, there really isn’t anything I can do about it if the camera doesn’t adjust from side to side. Other than this, great product that I DEFINITELY recommend getting for yourself. ... show more
