  • I'm Just Glad it Arrived
Color: Burgundy
I purchased the Amazon Kindle Scribe leather folio cover as part of a bundle. Almost a month after ordering and numerous date changes for arrival, I received the case. It looks like it was a return. The box was creased and torn where the opening tab was. That was a slight disappointment and a concern. I wonder if there was supposed to be something in the box that wasn't there? With that said, the folio case holds the Kindle in place securely enough that, I don't worry it will fall out with normal use. The case is very thin, very light, and looks very sleek. I don't like the big Kindle embossed on the front of the folio case, I'd rather that be on the back of the case somewhere preferably in small letters. I guess I overlooked that when I made my selection. I do like the angles the case provide for writing and reading. After two and a half, almost three weeks with no protection for the device, I decided I'm happy it arrived and I have something protect my investment. How well its going to hold up over time I cannot say. I see that the leather scratches easily, I inadvertently brushed my fingernail (I have natural short nails) across the cover reaching for the stylus and I see it made a scratch mark, I was able to rub it out a little but I can still see where my fingernail brushed across it. I guess I can say it has a weathered look now. Update September 26, 2024 After using my Kindle Scribe off and on over the past 7 months, I can say, "I'm happy with my purchase." I have a device that meets my needs for reading and taking handwritten notes. No, I can’t write the note in the margins of the books I read but I can get my thoughts down before I forget them. I like how the written notes can be seen on all my devices with the Kindle app. If I edit a note on one device it’s edited on all. I’m better at using the Kindle Scribe now even so, some problems I mentioned in my initial review still remain, like system crashes when I use the lasso tool and the inability to copy and paste text from the e-book to notes. Scribe makes it easy to collect written notes and distill them into a concise summary document. I don't type with the Scribe. In fact, if I need to type a note, I’d use the Kindle app on my iPhone. I have not explored whether or not the Scribe would work with a Bluetooth keyboard and I wouldn’t want that anyway because it would take away from the simplicity of what the Scribe is - a reader that allows you to take notes. I still give this e-reader high marks and recommend it highly for e-reading and note taking. Other pluses include, the notebook is great for those who like to write rather than type their thoughts. Handwritten notes can be changed to text even if the process is somewhat clunky. You can listen to and read book at the same time, something I like to do when I have trouble focusing. Overall, the Scribe is not a one tool that can do everything you might want a e-reader/e-notebook to do but what it does do, I think it does well. ... show more

  • You still use a legal pad? How quaint!
Color: Burgundy
Got my Kindle Scribe twenty-four hours ago. Put it to work on my first project. I would be using my Onyx Boox, another paperwhite device. That device has a lot going for it but the programming is not intuitive. You have to learn it. Once learned, the device itself requires a long boot up and quite a bit of fooling around to get to where I can use it. But for all its bad stuff the Onyx does not have the cons below. Pros: 1. Instant on. YAHOO. Work now! 2. Great paperwhite response. 3. Excellent pen. 4. I can read books on it. 5. MUCH better for reading PDFs. 6. Transferring my notes is SUPER easy. On the Boox it was a PITA using second hand apps. Cons: 1. Lasso – a HUGE con On the Boox I could be working on a notebook page, use the pen to lasso, or draw a circle around, a part of the page and then move that part around. That is HUGE. That allows this to be more than a piece of paper. If I can’t move things around on the page, this might be a deal-breaking problem. Kindle is promising cut and paste. HURRY UP. 2. PDFs Yes, way easier to read and annotate. Fantastic work. Don’t stop. Keep working. Whoever comes up with a way to make PDFs behave like MOBI files will win the day. 3. Battery Stop playing games with battery life claims. If I turn the LEDs off it will last years. I’m old. That light is going to be darn near or on 100% Kindles battery life claims are really questionable and based on tiny part of the population using it. So far the battery looks great but it ain’t gonna last twelve weeks. That’s just silly. Kindle: Don’t be silly. 4. Paging There are still amazing discoveries to be made on how pages work in a notebook, aren’t there? It just isn’t right yet. I have six pages on this first project and like the Boox, the Scribe programming still hasn’t developed a good way to handle pages. Maybe one big, long, ever expanding page. I suppose I could go too far and suggest that my February trip to Punta Cana will be affected by the lack of waterproofing. I won’t be able to work in the pool. Based on the belief that Kindle will add the cut and paste my initial reaction is HECK YEAH! I needed this. It runs well past the performance of the Boox out of the box. You still use a legal pad? How quaint. ... show more

  • Great tablet--but hang on to your Paperwhite
Color: Black
I have now had the Kindle Scribe for about a year, and thought I'd comment on my experience with it. In many ways I love this thing. Unlike my Paperwhite, it feels substantial--like an iPad. It is very well made, and the large screen is a delight. The writing/drawing capability is fantastic. It really does feel like writing on paper, and I love being about to quickly and easily jot down notes on what I am reading. That being said, if I had to keep just one device, I'd keep the Paperwhite. I considered trading it in on the Scribe, and I am very glad a didn't. First, the Paperwhite is much easier to slip into my back pocket, and the best reader is the one you have with you. Secondly, the Scribe is MUCH heavier than the Paperwhite, so fatigue sets in during an extended reading session. I often read while in a jacuzzi, and the Scribe, unlike the Paperwhite, is not waterproof. So as much as I like the Scribe, I find that I opt for the Paperwhite at least 75% of the time. It is great to have both, but if I were to own just one reader, I'd choose that Paperwhite. ... show more

  • Expensive but looks and feels great
Color: Black
This is a nice folio cover for my scribe. I love the look and the pen holder is nice and snug. It is held on only by magnets so when trying to open under the covers it sometimes slips off and is a pain to put back on in the dark. This could have been solved with small straps on the corners holding the Kindle in place. The retail price is way too high for this cover but buying "used like new" was more tolerable (that's how I got mine). I take my scribe to church with me as I like my bible from "kindle unlimited" and with the scribe its easy to get around quickly between passages. I needed a cover that looks good and this is great for that. ... show more
