We love the Amazon Basic chalk. It works great on our homemade chalkboard. Leaves a bit of a residue on both the classroom chalkboard and the small sign I have from the store. All the small ones crumble and are covered in chalk dust. I bought these to use as a homeschool board for my child. They are impossible to work with. The child also didn't like drawing with them, they break and crumble easily.
