To be honest, I wasn’t expecting very much but was desperate to get my products out the door so I invested in The Arrowmax. I invested in this tool because my old jewelry drill couldn’t penetrate mother of pearl easily. I found myself spending hours just to drill a handful of mother of pearl discs and pearl beads. I love that it comes in a case where everything is contained neatly. It holds a charge pretty well, meaning I don’t run out of juice in the middle of drilling. The four speeds are precisely what a jewelry maker needs for drilling beads of various density. I definitely recommend this product for people who do crafts or make jewelry. I am a sucker for new tools, and this one is a humdinger. The four-speed SDS Ultra Plus rechargeable (5V USB) pen-style device is specifically designed for drilling, operating at either 400, 500, 600 or 700 RPM, selectable with one of the two buttons on the pen-like body. This makes it ideal for drilling styrene which may melt at higher speeds. An interesting feature is that when you stop drilling by pressing the appropriate button, the drill reverses for “backing out” of a hole. It comes in an aluminum case along with ten drill bits. The drill worked well hand-held to drill styrene and grab-iron holes in resin freight car 3D-prints. The low-speed gearing also provides the compact drill with a surprising amount of torque. I was able to drill a 1mm hole in .020” brass using the SDS Ultra Plus in the Arrowmax drill press stand. (Photo 2) The ”Hedgehog” drill stand holds mini-drill securely. The drill holder position is adjustable up and down by 50mm, and the drill itself has a vertical travel of 40mm. The drill holder also is adjustable for angle. With all the positives there are some compromises: The SDS Ultra Plus is equipped with a collet chuck for 3/32” (.09375”/2.38mm) shank drill bits and comes with ten of 3/32”-shank bits in sizes .5-1.5mm (#76-#53). Some may not be familiar with 3/32” shank drill bits. Arrowmax sells additional sets of these bits. Other vendors sell 3/32” shank drill bits as well, including carbide bits intended for PC board. I have not had good luck with the carbide bits, finding them too brittle for me, and prefer HSS (“High Speed Steel”) bits, which can be purchased from Amazon and others. I still use some 3/32”-shank HSS bits I bought years ago at a train show in the U.K.) Arromax only makes the one size collet for their mini-drill, to fit 3/32”-shank drills. The shank of the Arromax 3/32” collet is 3.98mm in diameter, while most small collets are over 4mm in diameter. I was able to find one collet in my collection of miscellaneous collets with the same 3.98mm shank and which allows me to use small drills including smaller than a #76. I also found a pin-vise collet holder as well as a three-jaw chuck with 1/8” shanks which I turned down to 3/32” giving me more flexibility, although both tend to block the effectiveness of the drill’s built-in LED lights. Note: pin-vise collets may have noticeable “run-out” so marking a hole location with a center punch is essential to reduce the tendency for the bit to wander when using the drill in the drill stand. The “Hedgehog” drill holder is lowered by pressing on a short handle which can be installed for either right-handed or left-handed operation. I found that pressing down on this from the outer end of the handle sometimes caused the drill holder to bind on the two guide rods. Pressing down close to the drill stand frame did not result in any binding. The “double-ended” mini-vise is finely crafted of more C-N-C machined aluminum. It comes with add-on plastic vise jaws which can be attached to the aluminum jaws if desired, as well as some pegs for securing oddly shaped work. Turning the knob on the end of the vise moves both the jaws either apart or towards each other. The vise also has three steel dowels which are secured in recesses in the bottom of the vise by magnets. These dowels index with like recesses in the drill stand base. Using the dowels with the vise and drill stand means whatever work is secured in the vise is centered on the drill – good for some but not for most drilling operations. All-in-all a great tool for drilling a variety of materials, either hand-held or in the drill stand, and the drill stand is particularly good for a space-restricted workspace. ... show more

Was looking at this for a tool for my drone building, and it "worked" for about 6 months. But even then, minimally. Doesn't have enough power to really drill anything decent. And now it's dead and won't charge. Poor quality.

I do a lot of modeling. I often have to drill dozens of tiny holes for various fittings. Before finding this, I had to use a pin vise, a slow and laborious process. With this little beauty I can accomplish the job with more accuracy and a fraction of the time.

The media could not be loaded. I was really hoping this would be a good product but it is not. The drill press feature was the main reason I got this and it’s by far the worst part of it. The plunging action is not smooth at all it’s almost like it needs grease or some type of lubricant but it constantly gets stuck when using it. The drill itself is fine, but it sucks that it only fits their bits. Not sure I’ll be keeping this. I have a few weeks to decide but really leaning on returning this because the drill press is so bad ... show more

super simple to get ready & comes fully charged. Packaging is really nice for storage too. The intricate work was originally intended for small wooden pieces, but to fix a few plastic things I could never have done without this particular drill. In searching for this small drill, I wondered if i could find this at the usual tool or craft shops and that was not possible. For the price especially, this tool is precisely made to work with small parts we would otherwise have to throw away. The wand itself is perfectly balanced and easy to hold to stay on track.
