This is a great device for security and convenience. It works well, and I got the associated indoor chime to go with it so I can hear a verbal announcement when someone rings the bell. The videos and still shots are very crisp and clear 15-20 feet to the sides of my front door and in front of it as well. Videos I have set to be taken when motion is detected within the range I set, and they are stored until I delete them (which I do daily unless they have something on them I have to keep). I am somewhat disappointed about the battery life. If I start with a fully charged battery and the Ring app on my phone shows it is 100% charged, I find the battery goes down 1.5-2% each day, depending on the "traffic" that was videotaped. I would guess my average battery life (I change it at about 5-10% battery charge left) is about 7 weeks or 8 if I let it totally drain. I don't mind, since I have another battery ready to put in. I keep a spare battery fully charged, so it is quick and easy to replace with a fresh battery. Great product when we live in times where people and packages are not nearly as safe as they were years ago. ... show more

Love this camera - Doorbell Pro w/Chime and two way talk. Wonder how I lived without it!!! Took the place of a home security company charging me monthly. I'm in an apt w/a covered front walkway and attached garage. EVEN SO .... with the audio MOTION SENSOR ... it pics up movement and words up to2- 30 feet away, so the camera tells my phone to alert me that someone is approaching my door wayyy before they are in sight and the camera begins recording their face! This camera has a WIDE field of vision, and floor to sky view. I see my packages and the overhead lights of my covered walk-way. It paid for itself 3 days after mounting, when an unscheduled pest control man came and TRIED to peel off my Ring Sticker warning him he's about to be on film; still, he tried to dismount my camera, while talking to it, unaware he was audio recorded as well as video recorded. It comes with 30 days of free history but I can take a screen shot if needed of any event going on. But so far, chimes notifying my cell ahead of time, gives sufficient time for me to react appropriately. Even if not home, I can call police if needed. (I reported the guy for tampering w/my personal equipment). I can leave pre-recorded short audio messages after they press the "Ring" button; if home, it tells them, "please wait a minute" (or various options), as well for "away" messages; choosing either a male or female voice using "we/us" v. "me/I" (as if alone). A MUST HAVE in todays evil world. I'd strongly suggest mounting on doorframe with screws it comes with v. its tape alone, even if in an apt, as I am. Have one on my 1st floor back patio also. Now, I feel a level of security, that despite my faith in God to protect me, this was an added layer of protection I needed after an abusive marriage and hard divorce that required a 2-Year Protective Order, as he's a stalker! GET THIS CAMERA and A 2ND BATTERY to keep charged!!! A few dollars more is peace of mind that's PRICELESS!!! Stay Safe! Peace! :) ... show more

    • Good doorbell function but inconsistent motion detection

Update (11/22/2024) I currently have good signal strength to both of my Ring devices. My doorbell cam shows a relative signal strength of RSSI - 40 (which is very good). The Ring Chime Pro that is the closest to the doorbell cam shows a signal strength of RSSI - 63 (which is fair and adequate for video). But motion detection inconsistency remains. For example, just about 15 minutes ago as I type this a FEDEX delivery man left a package on my porch only about 3 or 4 feet from the doorbell cam. I received no indication of any motion detection in the app. And in fact there was no video of any motion. When I went out to retrieve the package, it recorded my picking up the package, but it labeled the video as package detection rather than motion detection. I have the motion detection sensitivity slider set to max and the detection zone larger than the porch area. It should have detected the FEDEX delivery man leaving the package. I will try setting the motion detection to a larger detection area (even though it is set to a more than adequate detection zone). Update (11/14/2024) A technical support person contacted me regarding my original review. He analyzed the issue with inconsistent motion detection with the doorbell cam (as well as my Spotlight Cam Pro). His conclusion was that if they had better WIFI signal strength they would perform better. So, I have installed a 2nd Chime Pro much closer to the front of my house where the doorbell cam is, and I moved the original Chime Pro further back, closer to the Spotlight Cam Pro. The signal strength of both devices have improved. Only time will tell whether better signal strength will equal more consistent motion detection. Original review: I have had the Ring Battery Doorbell now for several months. My impression is that it is a nice product that unfortunately is somewhat inconsistent in motion detection. Most of the time it successfully detects motion, but sometimes it obviously does not. On more than one occasion I have found packages on my porch sitting there almost directly in front of the doorbell, but no history of any motion detection. Somehow the package delivery person placed a package on my porch almost directly in front of the camera without being seen by the camera. It always seems to detect me when I walk in front of it. Yet, it is obviously missing some motion because delivery people are putting packages on my porch without the doorbell detecting them. That doe s not provide me with confidence in the security ability of the motion detection function of the doorbell. ... show more
