I have had this toy for about 3 years or so now and it is still going strong! It is hard for my cats to keep interest in a toy and usually they won’t last long, but no matter what when I turn this on - they run to play! It is fast enough to the point where they won’t catch it right away, but still achievable to. It is quiet and has held up very well. I foster/volunteer for a local rescue and currently have 9 kittens varying from 6 weeks to 4 months old along with 3 very playful mama kitties. I wanted something fun and less likely to eventually end up lost under the fridge or some other furniture and this seemed like a great alternative. They all absolutely love this toy and play with it non-stop! It isn't noisy like a lot of other battery powered toys so none of them are scared of it and the butterfly on the end of a wire is genius. The flapping of the wings is what really gets them going! It comes with an extra butterfly, but I have found it to be very durable with all the rough play and haven't had to worry about changing it yet. I have only three cons and they really aren't deal breakers: *The wire bends pretty easily with how often they try to carry away their "kill" dragging the base behind them which leads me to the next con.. *The base is just not heavy enough to keep it from ending up on its side or upside down (or all the way in another room entirely!) with all the rough play and trying to show off their "kill" once they catch their prey. *This thing eats batteries like they're going out of style. I will likely buy the USB rechargeable one next time. Overall, I do HIGHLY recommend this toy especially if you have multiple kittens that need some extra stimulation! ... show more

I have four cats, two seniors and two younger. The seniors checked this briefly and decided to watch from the couch. The younger two really like it, especially one of my boys. He’s also my chewer and has destroyed blind cords and the cute little balls hanging from a new cat tree were gone in minutes. This is holding up and I haven’t had to put the second butterfly on yet. The wire is stiff and doesn’t crimp, and the butterfly is quite thick mylar like material (about the thickness of ten mylar. balloons together). It also has a bit of holographic sheen that makes it flash as it ‘flies’. Also nice is that the motor isn’t too loud. One of my best cat toy choices. Update: three weeks later and we are on our third butterfly. I ordered the refill six pack when I put the second butterfly on. I’ve replaced the batteries once so far. The second butterfly died when they removed it completely from the wire and started batting it around the room. ... show more

My cat loves it when it's moving, but she's not really interested when it's not moving. My issue has been getting it to activate consistently. It does not activate when my cat walks in front of it, but it does when she sits right in front of the sensor. I have also noticed that it activates when any bright light nearby is turned off. I think the motion-sensor is actually a light-sensor programed to activate when it senses shadows. The only way it will activate for my cat is if her shadow looms directly over the sensor, so I've placed another toy she tends to sit on in front of the sensor to try to get her to line up properly. I found that the motion detection was a little finicky, but with some adjustment of position and room lighting it was functional.
