The D5 Cookware Collection is made using a patented 5-ply construction that takes your cooking to the next level. is made with our patented process that bonds 3 layers of stainless steel with 2 layers of aluminum. The additional layers distribute heat more evenly and slowly, eliminating hotspots and making every bite identically delicious. This comprehensive cookware set includes a 1.5 and 3-quart saucepan with lid for sauces, a versatile 3-quart Saute Pan, a large, do-it-all 8-quart stockpot; and a 5.5-quart Dutch Oven with corresponding lids. As versatile as it is beautiful, you can use this high- quality stainless steel cookware on gas, electric, or induction ranges or even the oven or broiler. A properly-equipped kitchen results as much from ELIMINATING all the low-utility items that every serious cook tries out from time to time as much as it does from ADDING the critical few tools that one truly needs to create memorable meals. For many cooks, this 10 piece set would be sufficient to fully equip the kitchen, especially if you cook mainly for 2-4 persons. Every pan and cover is the best of its type, effective and pleasant to use, while lasting a lifetime. The All-Clad D5 pans are heavier than most of the stainless cookware one finds on the market, but not unduly so—certainly lighter than Staub or Le Creuset cast iron and even lighter than the carbon steel pans from de Buyer. We have found these the most even-heating of all our cookware, and have been impressed that if the pan is heated first, oiled second and Maillard Reaction dynamics are followed, food can be cooked without sticking, almost as easily as it can on the best cast iron or carbon steel. But the D5 pans are more versatile than our cast iron and carbon steel pans, are better for sauces, are easier to clean and require less maintenance. We moved into a new house, and, lo&behold, it had an induction cook top. So, the old aluminum-bottom Farberware wasn't gonna cut it. I'd been wanting some real cookware anyway--our old set was from our 50-yrs-ago wedding presents, had served us well, but had some issues, chiefly cracking handles. You'd think you could get replacements, but not so. But I digress. These All-clad pans are the bomb. I don't care that much about their looks, but they look great. And they work better than any pots and pans I've ever owned. Just fabulous. Tight lids. Solid handles. Perfect balance. The no-drip edge really doesn't drip. And the heat distribution---wow, it's really outstanding. I'm used to my old cast iron pans, which are pretty great, but still have some hot spots here and there. Not these All-clads, they're about perfect. Yes, they're expensive. But in this case you really do get what you pay for. I'm sure there are good options for less. But I'll remember those terrible Farberware handles, and their ugly warped bottoms, for the rest of my life, and, I already can't remember how much I paid for the All-clads. I couldn't be happier with them. Incidentally, if you're considering induction--quit considering and take the plunge. I've been a gas cooktop guy all my life, and have hated every electric stove I've ever used. But induction is best of both worlds. You get instant heat, but easy clean. I can put a quart of water on one of these induction burners and it's boiling in a couple minutes. My massive cast iron egg pan is ready to go in the time it takes to get the eggs out. I often boil a little water on the stove to wash a dish or two, coz it's faster than waiting for the hot water at the tap. Good thing the smooth glass top is easy to clean, coz it's super easy to have a boilover. The heat comes on so fast and so hot; it takes some getting used to. These are no joke, professional grade. Real kitchens use these for consistency, reliability and durability. Heats evenly, no hotspots that I’ve noticed in the past 4 months of use. They are heavy, but are the real deal. No chemical non stick gimmick coatings, no cheap ply able metal, these are probably going to be a set of pans that I pass down to my kids. ... show more

These are the best pans the wife and I have ever purchased! We recently purchased an induction range, one of its features is a compatibility test. When ran, every pan shows 100% compatible. I was worried about the pans not being non-stick. One of the tips while searing is when the food stops sticking it is ready to flip and I found that to be absolutely true! Perfect sear on chicken and steaks. It took a little getting used to cooking on med to med high. I am used to cranking up the burner and moving the pan around to get an even cook. With these pans there is no hot spots the heat is evenly distributed over the entire cooking surface so there is no need to crank up the heat. I believe these will be the last set of pans we will ever buy. Love them! ... show more

Super heavy, you have to learn what not to cook in them and how to prepare to cook in them. Once you do that, it's great. Always preheat on medium before butting anything in them. SUPER nice pots and pans.

    • Cannot use any type of scouring pad

I was very disappointed with this such expensive purchase. The main reason I purchased these is because I wanted something ovenproof. They were not as heavy as I was expecting, I do think they were built well, I did not like how they stain really bad, even with water spots and you cannot get it off and most of all you cannot use any scouring pad on them, if anyone knows when you cook in the oven things splatter and get baked on. I am sure the first time I was to use them for that they would look 10-20 years old. They recommend using a special cleaner they have and they did not mention it would take off baked on or water stains, but who wants to do that, so much for the dishwasher. One of the big lids had a very large stain or scratch on it, do not know which, but I could not clean it off. They recommend drying them after cleaning and if your dishwasher leaves any spots, you would need to take them out after the wash to make sure they were good and dry. The reason I went with these expensive pots and pans is because of the praises it received from American Test Kitchen, guess I will think twice with what they say in the future. I truly want to return them, they are so not worth the price. They say they are for professionals, would hate to see what they looked like after the first use. I do not recommend these in the very least. Will be checking into Calphalon, Demeyere, Mauviel or Scanpan. ... show more
