The images online of how these look on the bar is not how they really fit. When open/unfolded each piece has padding on the two middle parts and then Velcro on the two long ends. When you put it together it forms a triangle when viewing from the end. It doesn't wrap around snugly and on my car the pads sometimes try to spin around when sliding a kayak onto the roof. Only two of the three sides have any padding. If you have really small/narrow bars you'll want to make sure the pad doesn't spin around to leave the bar unpadded. There isn't a way to get them tighter. The straps that came with the pads work well and so do the pads, if you have them on right. Everything seems to be of fine quality and sturdy. Just wish it fit a little better. But hey, it's 'universal' and not made specifically for my vehicle. Gave it 4 overall stars instead of 5 because the image of the installed pads doesn't represent how they really look/fit. In fact, the image looks photoshopped. ... show more

I really like these. They are sturdy they never come off thru the car wash. However, they do fade at least mine did within 3 months. I did order another set but will consider painting the older set because they are nice and sturdy

I have one SUP and transportation has always been tricky. I usually throw it in the inside of my van, but then I can only have one other passenger. I tried the metal holders and racks, but the board moved around too much because I think those are mostly made for kayaks. This system was easy to install and after we got the hang of it, easy to throw the board up and go. I do recommend measuring the bars you are attaching this to and the width also. I didn't measure and mine were a little too wide, so we had some of the extra velcro edge hanging off that we had to safety pin up. Our whole family was able to go down to Florida this past weekend, an 8 hour trip, and I was worried about my board flying off, but it stayed put, even in a rainstorm. I have trouble with two of the straps when I arrived at my destination somehow one strap had in a small tear and another strap appeared to have melted other than the poor quality of the straps this is a very effective product. Honestly I expected these to be subpar and enough to get the job done. These exceeded my best expectations. They fit really well, the Velcro is very strong and the straps work just as they should. I’m using these for surfboards so the straps are more than long enough for me. They pull very tight and appear to not lose tension. I drove 75mph with a 9’6 longboard strapped the the roof and had no issues. A big plus is the carrying case they come with. Sometimes I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to roll up the straps nice and tidy, I just throw them in the carry bag like wet spaghetti and the pads go in with just enough room to not be a hassle. Over all 10/10 as long as they hold up over time ... show more

The only reason ease of use got 4 stars ( which is a good thing). To get pads over existing bars it has to be the strongest Velcro I have ever dealt with. Nice tie down straps , carried a Ocean Kayak XL on vacation no issues. Everything you need.

I bought for a Kayak. The pads I bought were designed for an existing rack. I needed the set that sits in top of the roof, so I returned. I would buy from the same place again

    • Best bang for buck!
I buy lots of stuff on amazon (have been surfing since the 1980's and have SUP's and Kayaks as well) and these were way better than I expected. I just wanted the four pads and was impressed with the little extra hold down thingy-mabobbers and stuff sack for it all....and there were RATIONAL instructions with pictures no less! Sure the English wasn't quite perfect, but good enough... Hats off to these guys for taking the time to put it all together. For under $30 bucks its a LOT of usefull car-topping stuff. I didnt think the amazon picture was mis-leading, you can tell the "racks" are a lighter color and it says right above it in RED that cross bars are not included. If you price cross bars, you will realize, there ain't no way you can get cross bars AND all this padding and strap down stuff for under $30... Anyway, I'm totally stoked with it and bought two more for my two teenage daughters (so they don't borrow mine!)...at $30 its crazy not to. ... show more
