  • Great Machine
I needed a portable and easy to use radon detector machine and bought this one based on reviews. First machine was not working properly, draining the batteries after two days of use (the machine gives you a 7 day-average reading, so you need the batteries to last longer than two days). After changing the batteries set three times, I contacted the manufacture (it was already outside the return period from Amazon) and they provided incredible customer service, sending a new machine to my house within days. New machine is working perfectly and is easy to use. It provides you with the daily reading as well as a 7 days average (as mentioned above). Great, easy, and good value for the product. ... show more

  • Accurate, foolproof, and a life saver
I'm really glad to have this device. When we bought our house 15 years earlier, we had done a radon test and found the levels to be low. But within the last few years I'd started using the unfinished basement quite a bit (home gym), and randomly ordered a charcoal radon test off Amazon. It took me a few months before I finally used it, but after getting the results back, I found that our radon levels were above safe limits (~10+ pCi/L). That freaked me out, and I wanted to quick answers, so I bought this Airthings radon detector from Amazon and had it the next day. It confirmed that our levels were higher than they should be. Further, it also revealed our levels were above safe limits even on the floor above the basement. I'm so glad we didn't have to wait for another charcoal test. A few days later, we had a radon system installed that basically sucks the radon out of the ground, underneath the crawlspace and concrete basement floor. This was a year ago and it has been very effective, reducing our radon levels down to a 1-year average of ~1.3 pCi/L. I've found the Airthings device to be quite accurate, nearly matching the 2-week results from an independent test using two Sun Nuclear radon testing devices. I like how quickly I can get results. For instance, I recently found that opening windows on the top level of our house causes radon levels to increase in the basement (to ~3-4 pCi/L), and this happens due to a chimney effect creating negative pressure in the house, causing it to draw more radon out of the ground. I also learned that I could prevent the negative pressure by also opening windows on the lower level of the house. If I didn't have the Airthings device, I would not be able to tell how these kinds of changes affect radon levels. For any kind of test like this, it's important to give it some time (a day or two minimum), as radon levels naturally increase and decrease all the time, so you can only trust longer term averages. And the longer the test, the more accurate the number. The Airthings device doesn't give you minute-by-minute readings for this reason. Instead, it gives you, short term 24-hour, 7-day, and long term averages, which is ideal. I also like how simple this device us, it's foolproof. There's really nothing for you to do other than finding a good place to put it, and reading its screen. There are no buttons (unless you count the tiny reset button on the back, which you may never use). It shows you the 1-day, 7-day and long-term averages by rotating the numbers every few seconds on the screen. The batteries last a really long time. We've been running the device on the original batteries nonstop for over a year, with no sign of slowing down. Lastly, I also like that you can easily test different places in your house, or even different houses (we recently tested my parents house). It would be a pain to do this with charcoal tests. I highly recommend this device, especially if a charcoal test makes you want further testing, and it is well worth the price. I can't think of any downsides and I will never be without one of these devices. ... show more

  • Simple Peace of Mind
My husband is a never smoker and has spent little time around secondhand smoke. Not has he spent much time around chemicals or workshop dust. Yet he was recently diagnosed with metastasized lung cancer. Perplexed, I went looking for potential causes. I learned that radon is the number one cause of lung cancer in never smokers and plays a large role in the development of lung cancer in smokers. I also learned that a house can have high radon levels even if the house next door doesn’t. So it is important that everyone test their home for radon. Many radon tests need to be sent to labs with lab fees. This one does not. It is so easy to use and it continually monitors radon for up to two years on its batteries. This ensures that I can always know what the radon levels are in my home. The detector is small and portable . It is is easy to place out of view. The results are very easy to read. It is suggested that radon levels be tested for a minimum of 30 days because radon levels can vary from day to day. After 30 days, I plan to move it from my basement to my main floor to check the radon level there. I read scientific reviews of this radon test (I am a research nerd) and learned that it has good reliability and accuracy. Even though I learned about radon too late to prevent lung cancer for my husband, I have peace of mind knowing that I can learn our radon level and mitigate any future risks from radon. I am so impressed with this easy to use radon test that I have already recommended it to a friend who is a nurse and I plan to recommend it to my children, if not buy one for each of their homes. ... show more

  • Works well, but...
The device seems to accurately detect radon as a 24 hour, weekly, and long term average. It only seems to work with the battery type it comes with and Duracell. Energizers did not work, nor did any type of rechargeable. Other battery types caused it to take a long time to calibrate or do something, only to result in an error every time that is not covered by the website. After installing the Duracell batteries, the calibration thing it did went much faster and only counted up to like 30 and everything just worked. I bought this item in 2022 and the batteries just went dead in 2024, so they do last around 2 years. I'd give this product 5 stars it it took rechargeable batteries. I have all these rechargeable batteries and nothing these days seems to accept them. ... show more

  • Working great after 5 months
This device is pretty sensitive to the levels and reads them well. I had the levels confirmed by a professional test. It's completely silent and doesn't have to be monitored constantly. It looks decent and fine on a shelf low down in my laundry room. It warned me of high levels of radon in my new home so I called a professional out who installed a radon mitigation system and got my radon levels down to a very safe number. The device allows me to know that my mitigation system is still working properly and that my safety is still intact with regards to radon. ... show more

  • Accurate & easy
Recommended by a company who installs radon mitigation system. They said they use in their office & just as accurate as more expensive devices. Readings started nearly immediately. We move around the house now that we've had remediation done to ensure we catch changes in radon level.
