  • Air Compressor VT-6271 for Universal placement
Style: 30-Gallon Horizontal Air Compressor
This compressor fills the void between 2hp and 5hp. At 3.7 it is plenty powerful and flows more than enough cfm, even if you are spray painting. It does run on 220v so you will need to plan for that. It does come with a three foot cord for 220v - with a 30amp plug design , 12 gauge wire. I changed my cord to 10 gauge wire, 10 feet long. It is easy to do, that way you can choose the plug design you want. I have the same plug design for my heater, welder, and now compressor (50 amp design). It is a heavy duty unit and it comes complete with a regulator and gauges. Speaking of the regulator, I was told that they come pre-assembled because they are tested at the factory (Campbell H.) and the regulator is connected and exposed on the side of the tank; this placement leaves it vulnerable to damage (in transit/shipping) as it is only plastic. It is shipped on a wooden pallet (good), but it is covered by a thin piece of cardboard (very bad). So, if it arrives damaged (all else is steel) just call CH and they will send you a new regulator/gauge set up - many reviews I have read mentioned damaged regulators ; mine arrived ok, but I was assured CH would send parts directly to me (call CH tech line). This unit will cover ALL of your compressed air needs ..... easily - pro level single user spary painting requirements . (plenty of cfm and.... you can get factory support if needed). • It's not the compressors fault !
Style: 30-Gallon Horizontal Air Compressor
I replaced a 40-year-old Craftsman air compressor (I am original owner) with this unit. Craftsman no longer makes a model like my old one. This unit has the same pressure and output specs as my old one and was in my price range. Once received I was really disheartened. It is manufactured in the U.S. with domestic and international parts. Otherwise, it has offshore parts integrated in it. It was shipped on a wood skid and once when the cardboard 'shell' box was removed, I noticed where the metal end stanchion leg was bent along with the wooden shipping support was broken of the skid itself. As I looked further, I noticed the pressure relief valve, which is made for brass, had looked like someone used vice grips on the shell body to install it and it appeared all chewed up. Terrible. Also, temporary shipping straps were loose one side and the other was completely detached from shipping skid. Amazed it did not receive further damage from shipping. Once I got over this quick look, I started on specific areas of the compressor. First thing I noticed, was 3 of the mounting bolts that attached the compressor to the tank mounting was not tightened thoroughly, and the fourth bolt was completely missing! I replaced the bolt with my own stock and tightened all 4 bolts equally with a torque wrench, you do not want to tighten really tight as this could affect the base of the compressor, especially if it is made of aluminum, which this compressor pump is made of cast iron. I also checked the mounting bolts on the motor, they too were semi tight. I tightened those also. Now further down I checked the tightness of the wheels, both wheels we semi loose, they would wobble as you pulled the compressor along, again, I tightened the wheel nuts, now they run true. Once I had gotten all this taken care of and serviced to run, using the optional Mobil 1 oil I fired the compressor up and let it run for it recommended break in time with time in between to let the compressor cool as needed. Once I went through that procedure, I noticed later that the tank was not holding air for long. Sooooo, again I go into a troubleshooting mode. Check ALL THE FITTINGS. I discovered about half of them were semi tight. I resolved myself to taking each fitting loose and wrapping with Teflon tape and tighten every fitting. As luck would have it, I did my homework and now the compressor holds its pressure. So, to sum up my experience, it's not the compressors' fault, it's the person or person(s) and Quality Control/final inspection of the company itself. A side bar here: For curiosity's sake the company does not sell parts directly anymore they have 3rd party vendors, for curiosity's sake I pick a part number off the owner's manual and checked stock in a 3rd party vendor online account, (a well-known vendor) mind you this is a brand-new air compressor that was assembled about 2 weeks before I had ordered it. They show a picture of the part and said "discontinued"! No longer available! Can you believe it. ... show more

  • Product review for Campbell Hausfeld VT6271
Style: 30-Gallon Horizontal Air Compressor
First of all, let me start by saying I did a lot of work researching other air compressors on-line reading customer reviews like the one I am writing. That said, here it goes. For me, I was seeking an air compressor I would use with my father in-law to build a 16'x18' deck on the back of my house, so I needed one with a lot of power and reserve. The first air compressor came damaged to me. I found the damage after the shipper left. The damage was a broken pump wheel. The entire wheel was broken off the spokes. I called Campbell Hausfeld. They explained to me that Amazon would prefer that I call them because the product was damaged upon arrival. So, I called them and they handled everything perfectly. The customer representative gave me the option of exchanging the product or returning it for a complete refund. I opted for an exchange. I received the second one no more than 5 days later (I pressed Amazon for that because I was taking vacation the following week to start my project and needed it then, not the following week). The second one arrived in perfect condition. I used the compressor; I worked it very hard and am completely satisfied with its performance. However, after three and a half months (purchased last week of July 2009) I noticed the paint flaking off the tank and rust underneath the paint. I know this might not seem like a big deal, but I was looking at it from the view point that the tank may be leaking air and the moisture from the condensed air may be causing the paint to flake. Anyhow, after I spent $[...] I expect it to still look like new after just a few months. Besides, in the rare event I decided to sell it, would anyone be interested in purchasing a rusty air compressor even though the owner states "works great even though it looks bad"? I think NOT considering a rusty tank is typically a sign of a leaky tank. Furthermore, how is that my father in-law's compressor looks great after building his 2,800 sqft home himself nearly 20 years ago? In the end, I just want mine to look like the rest of my tools - in great condition from taking care of them properly. Moving on, I called Campbell Hausfeld and they said tank paint is covered. The only problem is they want to replace my shiny blue tank with a crummy, dull, grey primer colored tank. I know some of you might be thinking no big deal, but again I paid $519.99 and I expect $519.99. I bought this product for two reasons. First, it was made in the United States of America [I only buy American made (a product manufactured by an American company headquartered in America and not just assembled here like those cheap foreign cars). Second, I purchased it because I knew it could handle the demands I would require of it while building the deck and working on my vehicles as a hobby (no I am not a union laborer - I am a professional, 4 year degreed individual). Anyhow, to conclude this review, I am very happy with the compressors performance; however, I am and dissatisfied with Campbell Hausfeld's cheap fix/replacement option for my rusting tank. I am still in the process of convincing Campbell Hausfeld of replacing my tank with painted one. I will keep you posted as to what comes of all of this. I hope my review was helpful? My intention was to inform future purchasers not to dissuade or persuade. Regards, Mark, Ohio [...] ... show more
