  • Check wire gauge requirements before ordering the larger unit.
I used this in my boat. Automatically tranfers to shore power when available. My battery bank is small so far, so it has probably double to triple the charge capability than I currently need, but hope to expand into. The biggest down side to this unit is the instructions call for #0/4 wiring which is huge and expensive. Because of that I would have chosen the smaller unit that uses #0/2 instead. Upgraded my alternator to 130 amp high output and this easily runs refrigeration, coffee maker and auxiliary bilge pump, tv, wet vac, power tools, etc. under way. We have been conservative on how we use it on battery while moored or at docks with no power. Since we only have around 90 amp hour battery (45 amp hours to safely use). We switch off all unnecessary loads and as of yet have never run our battery down to the point of automatic shut down of the inverter. The power saver mode doesn’t seem to work well with phantom loads (such as Television on standby for remote control) so you need to either turn that circuit off or unplug those items or chose regular inverter mode. Overall the performance has been great. The unit is quiet enough that we only hear it when we are sitting on the seat under which it is mounted. The features and performance so far make this a great value. ... show more

  • If they are good enough for NASA...
2 years ago I purchased an AIMS POWER PICOGLF25W12V120AL Green 2500W Power Inverter Charger with Transfer Switch (12VDC to 120VAC). I developed confidence in this brand after owning a 4kw Aims inverter (PICOGLF40W12V120V 4000 Watt and 12,000 Watt Surge 12 VDC Input to 120 VAC Output Pure Sine Inverter Charger Backup Power) that is being utilized in my RV Solar Power System. The mother of invention prompted me to use Aims Power for a portable battery/solar UPS cart. I chose the 2500w with 7500w surge mainly for the reasonable price for an inverter with built-in transfer switch and battery charger, plus it will run two refrigerators and a deep freeze or air compressor or shop vac plus heat gun and other tools. I'm in the process of ordering another Aims 2500w for my second portable power cart system. These things are built like a locomotive and I believe they're worth every penny! ... show more

  • Well made - some design considerations....
This appliance is solid and works as-advertised. A couple of suggested enhancements: 1. I would have designed it so that the Charger can be enabled without having to enable the Inverter as well; need more intelligence so that, like the OEM charger, it just comes on when hooked to shore power. 2. I had to dial in the charger current, which again, the OEM charger never had to do before; I had to change the current depending on if I was hooked to 15amp or 30amp shore power - can this be auto-detected? 3. The LCD screen add-on provides useful information, but is VERY hard to see; the screen must be viewed straight-on, and even then, it's hard to read. It's kinda stuck in the 90's LCD-wise. A tough review perhaps, but an honest one! I'm still pleased with choosing AIMS. ... show more

  • AIMS 2500
A substantial unit. Easy installation and operation. Doesn't draw much power at idle, makes very little heat, is quiet, even with fan operating. To test I turned on the 1000W microwave and a 1500W heat gun at the same time, for a total of the rated 2500W. Ran for 1 min. The inverter just ran the fan and put out. As soon as the loads were turned off the fan stopped. It runs all electronics flawlessly. Good value for the money. ... show more

  • Failed after fewer than two years in use; no customer support response
The inverter seemed to work after I initially installed it, but a little while back, the fan on the inverter seemed to be running harder than normal. I called customer service/technical support to see if I could get some answers or assistance, but no one answered. I left a message, but no one returned my call. Well, I decided to unplug the inverter for the time being, because I didn't want it to burn up from running how. Here we are now a few weeks later, and when I plug the inverter in, it doesn't work at all. No lights come on for shore power and no lights come on for the battery backup. The inverter is just dead. I guess I'll have to find a different manufacturer for my next inverter, because for the price you pay for this thing, failing around the two year mark is unacceptable. ... show more

  • Works great for Zoeller N53 AC sump pump!
I bought the Low Frequency inverter to only operate a (inductive load) Zoeller N53 1/3HP sump pump from an AGM 92AH battery. The Zoeller N53 sump pump draws ~26 AC amps at start up (less than a second) and 9.7 AC amps when it is running. AIMS 2500 handles Zoeller N53 startup without any problem since AIMS 2500 surge spec is 7500W for 3 seconds which is much more power than Zoeller N53 required startup of 2860 watts (26 AC amps x 110v). While the sump pump was running from the AGM battery it drew 76 DC amps (12.5vDC x 76A = 950 watts). Based on my calculation, a single 92AH AGM battery should handle power outage for 6.1 hours given 30-seocunds pump operation every 8 minutes cycle during **heavy rain** (30 seconds every 8 minutes data is based on the actual data collected from PumpSpy electronic sump pump monitoring). For moderate rain, the backup battery should handle power outage of 11.5 hours (pump operates 30 seconds for every ~15 minutes cycle, instead of 8 minutes cycle). In the area where I live, average power outage lasted 2-3 hours. I also have a DC-power sump pump as a backup pump. When the inverter provided inverted power to the sump pump, the cooling fan was turned on. The fan noise was moderate. The fan continues to run for about 2-3 seconds after the sump pump stopped. The charger works fine for an AGM battery. Absorption charge voltage is 14.5v-14.7v. Float charge is constant 13.7v, <= 0.1a. NOTES: - I don't use the inverter GFCI outlet for a sump pump. GFCI application is not for sump pump. I have seen GFCI outlets tripped during high surge startup load. - The Inverter Store shipped the inverter with the factory box inside a well-padded thick cardboard box. It arrived no damage. ... show more
