I got this for my wife for Mother's Day - she loves the sound of running water. When the item arrived it had a hole in the side of the basin that the water is held in - I was able to use some epoxy to fix, rather than sending back. The motor is quiet as long as it's not vibrating against the side of the plastic basin. You can hear the water trickling and its pretty soothing. There is so spillage from the sides. the only draw back for me is that I wish I could hear the flow of the water much more. Its more on the quiet side. Apart from that is lovely. Add stones to make it even more beautiful. I realize that you don't have to add water often too so you can leave it running unattended to for days

This is a good fountain for indoors. The first fountain we bought got returned because you could not hear the water from four feet away, and the motor was quite loud. So I tried this one. I figured anything less than 15 inches tall and there wasn't enough distance for the water to fall to make a sound. Even adding rocks or crystals didn't make a splashing sound. You need height. The water flow is adjustable and on the highest setting, you can hear the waterfall from 15 feet away. Because the bowl holds a lot more water than a small one - it looks like about 45 ounces - the motor is completely submerged in the water and it's silent. Even though it's resin and fiberglass, it doesn't look bad. It looks and sounds good in our living room. The light is inside the water of the bottom bowl (bowl 4). It projects up through the water and lights the front of bowl 2 and 3. The light shimmers because it projects through the moving water. It's nice. Finally, I plugged it into a timer so it comes on at 4 and off at 10 pm.
