  • Simply incredible and beautiful Metroidvania
Platform For Display: playstation_5
It’s truly astonishing how big and beautiful this game is. It has the mesmerizing art quality of Ori, combined with the slick gameplay and combat of SOTN and Bloodstained. Clocking in at 35hrs it’s also one of, if not the longest in the genre - yet it never gets old. You’ll get sucked in like an RPG. ... show more

  • Amazing

I'm beyond impressed with this half priced metroidvania. They've done a lot of patches and fixed some major issues. This game is massive and I constantly get lost In a fun way. Fluid combat, great graphics, voice acting is good and still has its challenges. Some areas can be too large and daunting to figure out where to go and how to get around but it's still very enjoyable. ... show more

  • Very good game

I personally enjoyed the game although I am not a fan of this style of games (Metroivania). The only place I think it kinda lacks is the story but I feel that if there is a second game the developers are gonna patch this up.

  • MetroidVania Image
Platform For Display: playstation_5
Beautifully hand drawn metroidvania with some anime sprinkled on top. I would say this title is not so much about going into difficult arenas and being overwhelmed, But about exploration and unlocking certain moves that you can do in order to visit said area. It also has an arsenal of locked moves you can unlock as you grind your way through the story. The main character is awesome, the side character is obnoxious but after a while you learn to tune him out, That being said this game is NOT a cakewalk, the bosses won’t just let you get past them like it’s nothing. It’s about learning their patterns and trying again when you eventually fail the first time on the third boss encounter, This game has a whole lot going for it, And obnoxious voice acting on your co star aside, It shouldn’t be missed. One of the best indie games of the year, pick this one up! 4.5/5 🌟 ... show more

  • One of the best
Platform For Display: playstation_5
Afterimage is seriously one of the best metroidvanias out there. It is more similar to Castlevania as there are level ups, equipment, and different weapons. The game is gorgeous, every area has a lot of detail on the map which says a lot because the game is HUGE. The developers definitely put work into this game and it shows. Difficulty is present, as with most games of this genre. This is not a game you can win without learning patterns. There are also times when you enter an area you are not yet supposed to be. With how big the game is, you can always explore and come back to a difficult area and finish it no problem. Overall 5/5 game and one my my favorites now. ... show more

  • Un gran juego
Platform For Display: playstation_5
... show more

  • Best metroidvania since Hollow Knight
Platform For Display: playstation_5
I bought this game through the PS store, but wanted to write a review here to support the developers and encourage you to try the game. Afterimage was not on my radar at all before it came out. I was blown away by the beautiful art style and color palette. Locations are distinct from each other and the enemy variety is plentiful. The game is full of lore and environmental storytelling that add to the immersion. Voice acting is great and I really enjoyed the characters and came to care about them and their relationships. Easter eggs occur regularly if you’re paying attention to the scenery or item descriptions, which tells you just how much the developers love this genre and were inspired by SoTN, HK, etc. Among my favorites was getting a special weapon to drop, which, after considering how the weapon worked, the enemy that dropped it, and the setting it was in, turned out to be 3 easter eggs in 1. Exploration is rewarded with a new accessory, armor piece, weapon, money, lore, boss fight, Easter egg, or other power up. The build variety is a ton of fun. You equip 2 main weapons and 1 sub weapon, and each has unique skills. These skills often flow from one to another, or can be used along with “afterimages”, which act as skills or passive power ups to round out a build. The controls are spot on and I loved the platforming. The challenge is roughly 5/10, with some bosses being push-overs and others requiring patience and skill to learn their moves and find openings to attack. I plan to platinum the game and already have around 45 hours, with plenty more to go. The music is stunning, and ranges from playful and fun to dark and ominous. I found myself stopping at times to take in the scenery and music, which is something I rarely do in games. I’m a huge fan of metroidvanias and buy most of them when they come out. This is among the best. I’m really looking forward to more from this developer. ... show more
