  • Blue Active Era Ultra Lightweight Sleeping Bag Review
First off, I had less than a 1 week notice before my next deployment. I am a first responder and work in emergency medical services therefore regions (environments) I work in are frequently changing. In this case, I took up a volunteer position to serve in Puerto Rico, high humidity and temperatures exceeding upper 80s meant traveling LIGHT especially through the rural/mountainous areas. I didn't have a big budget, most costs were for my own account. (I was praying and hoping that when my sleeping bag DID arrive that it wasn't going to be junk. ) My personal review is based on my experiences during one of my deployments. I purchased this sleeping bag on May 10, 2018. Pros: Lightweight and Compact - See photos. I received my item in less than 48hrs after placing my order. Excellent Customer service. Friendly follow up emails received, including tips on maintenance from the CEO, Joshua. I am 5ft6 and stocky like a bulldog. I was comfortable and didn't feel suffocated. A big selling point for me is that this is a small brand and business. The $ price was fair and the quality, size and weight of the sleeping bag met my expectations. If you look at my sleep system in the photos. (I had this sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner, microfiber towel and sleeping pad all together) On hot evenings I was able to switch between the liner and the Active Era sleeping bag. The sleeping bag provided enough "cushion" between my sleeping pad and the cot. The zipper was quiet enough not to disturb our snoring sleeping quarters. I was able to be stealth like ninja during the night ;) FYI Sleeping bag is water resistant NOT waterproof: My sleep system was encased inside a backpack that had a waterproof cover. - Nothing duct tape and contractors bags can't cure HA! I treated my gear including this sleeping bag with Permethrin as a deterrent for the bugs (flying and otherwise) two days before travel. The sleeping bag did not smell nor stain after the application had dried. Cons: None at this time. Last comment. I haven't washed the sleeping bag yet (I used a sleep liner) and aired it out on sweaty nights. Other: Other volunteers and first responders commented on my kit and were amazed for the SIZE and PRICE as to how affordable and practical these sleeping bags are.I recommend these sleeping bags for hot weather, WITH a sleep liner it can add additional warmth on colder nights. Great for hiking and trips that require miles and miles of walking with your kit. Cheap enough, that if it breaks, gets lost or even stolen that it isn't the end of the world! As a first responder I am always trying out new gear in the field. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't NO BS. Thanks Active Era, you made the grade and added to a comfortable rest after a long days out in the field :) ... show more

  • Advertisement differs from Mfg. Tag
Style: Sleeping Bag
Active Era Ultralight sleep bag is well made. However, there are two misleading statements in the ad, first the ad indicates 75 x 30 but by stretched the width it is 28" wide. Second, the ad indicates Machine washable, but the Manufacture's label reads: "HAND WASH with cool water, maximum Temp 30 C. DO NOT MACHINE WASH, DO NOT USE TUMBLE DRYER. HANG TO DRY. DO NOT IRON." Well, I did machine wash in warm and tumbled dry on perma press, since Hand Wash is not possible or desirable for a sleeping bag, and the bag now has a odor with body heat. No it's not my body odor. I speculate the fibers are very delicate and burnt with tumble dry heat. I'm 5'5 " 135lb and 28" is o.k. without zippering. It is a nice light comfortable sleeping bag. Would have been keeper, but I have no use for it now with the odor most likely from the Machine W/D. ... show more

  • Almost perfect
Style: Sleeping Bag
I bought this because I was going to do some "indoor camping" and knew I would melt if I used a regular sleeping bag. It's very lightweight and perfect for sleeping in temps in the 60s. It folds up fairly small (small enough that I'm keeping it in my car in case of an emergency) and comes with a nice carry bag. My only reason for marking it 4 stars is that it's surprisingly narrow. It says that it is 30" wide and my traditional sleeping bag is 32". What difference does 2" make? Apparently quite a bit. If you barely move when you sleep, I'm sure it's fine, but everytime I rolled over, I felt claustrophobic. For reference I am 5'6" and a size 12/14. Was it worth $22? Absolutely. Will I use it again? Almost definitely. ... show more

  • Test Drive this week.
Style: Sleeping Bag
I will be testing it out in the wilderness this coming week. Perfect weight (since I have to carry it) for a summer bag, compact, and everything as advertised. Great price and constructions.

  • Fine light sleeping bag - but not filled with down
Style: Sleeping Bag
This sleeping bag is lightweight and thin, perfect for summer camping. The only reason I'm writing this review is that the Amazon description says it is filled with down and it is not.

  • Very light, limited warmth
Style: Sleeping Bag
First, the Cons: The listed temps feel very misleading. It's a very light-duty bag, so it's like wrapping yourself in a single blanket. I tested it indoors, in ~70 degrees, on a bed. That should have been almost uncomfortably warm, but it felt like it was barely doing the job in temps that hardly even warrant a blanket. That leads me to believe I'd be downright cold in any situation where I'm on the ground/a camping mat and 50 degrees. This bag is for sleepovers and summer camping, and shouldn't be considered for winter or high altitude temps as it's way too lightweight. The Pros: The material is comfortable. It's light and compact so it's easy to pack and carry. It has a nice and convenient carry bag included. It's very reasonably priced. Overall I intended this for light use so it will work for my purposes. But if I had purchased it relying on the 60-50f comfort rating in the listing, I would have been very disappointed. ... show more
