Some of the items didn't arrive, and there's also a noticeable plastic smell. The case's quality is acceptable, but the material used in making this item is not of high quality. Overall, the product's quality is average at best.

    • Great brushes, but hooooboy what a stink
I hate to say it, but the very first thing you notice about this set of rather nice brushes is the very horrible stench that punches you directly in the face repeatedly until you're about five feet away from them. I wish I was kidding, but I'm not even exaggerating here. The brushes themselves are very nice, rolled into a case and with a pretty good palette knife, a thoughtful inclusion. The smaller brush tips are protected and the variety of brushes in the set is excellent. These are not only great for beginners, but for any skill level - everyone who paints recognizes the need for all kinds and qualities of brushes. I prefer synthetic brushes because I dont like using any animal fur for anything when I can possibly avoid it, so the vast majority of my brushes are synthetic, and they do very well. These are as nice as any others I've owned. They load up and lay down nicely. But to get back to the smell...it's like the Toxic Avenger went to a really bad restaurant, contracted food poisoning, went home, and died in a barrel of pig effluvium. Only worse. I've honestly never in my life smelled anything like it. I usually ignore reviews that talk about how bad a thing smells when it's first opened; off-gassing is a thing, and not worth even complaining about. But this has to be thoroughly covered this time, because it was bad enough to actually make me nauseated to the point where I thought I would vomit, and that has *never* happened before. I put these brushes by the window and in a couple hours the smell was gone, but whew. That's some crazy stuff there, and folks talking about how bad this package smells are *not* kidding. Be aware. The brushes are really nice, but open this package outside or near a window and leave it there until the smell is gone. A weird price to pay for a brush set, but at least it's a really nice kit! I do recommend the brushes, but manufacturer folks, WHAT is that SMELL? ... show more

    • Off gassing is crazy but o/w these are fine
These brushes are a great starter set....but don't get close to them for a day after you open them...I have no idea what kind of noxious fumes they were giving off when I opened them but I had to put them out on the porch over night first. O/w there is a good selection and if you like to use synthetics instead of natural then these are a good, portable solution for your painting hobby. ... show more

A really good value set for beginner to intermediate level painters. They're synthetics made of nylon, so that should give folks an idea of what to expect compared to natural hair bristles. That said, synthetics can be great and do a perfectly good job. I think these are pretty good quality in terms of performance. No loose ferrules. No frayed or split bristle tips. They load up paint as expected. For $27 you get a lot. I tried them with watercolors, water based acrylics, gouache, and oil paints and they did well with all. Given the different viscosities of said paints, there were differences between them regarding how much paint you could load into the bristles, but that's expected. Honestly the one issue I had with them was just how much they badly reeked upon opening them. Just a very strong scent of...not sure, a plasticky chemically scent. I opened the roll and placed the roll between my glass paned window and the window screen covering, then closed the window so they could air out without risk of damage or theft, or the odor drifting in. Initially the scent could be smelled several feet away in the same room as them, but after airing out for 24 hours, the smell diminished to the point that you had to place it under your nose to smell it and the smell was faint. Still distinguishable given it's easy to recognize a smell that was so strong the day prior, but at least they're actually usable now. ... show more

I paint casually, currently doing a lot of acrylic. This is a great set of brushes for me, it includes a diverse enough range of brush shapes and sizes to cover most if not all my needs. The nylon bristles are nice, smooth, and fairly dense. The handles feel solid and stable with fairly sturdy ferrules, so the brushes are comfortable to hold and easy to control. The spatula is great too. I also appreciate the soft carrying case; it keeps everything organized without a big footprint. One of the reviews here mentioned an odor from the case/brushes. I guess the case has a bit of a plasticky smell? But it’s not abnormal or overwhelming; it didn’t even really register for me until I saw it mentioned in a review. The only issue so far is a bit of shedding on the bigger brushes, almost like broken bits of nylons falling out. It was only at the beginning when I first touched the bristles to soften them up. If it continues I will update my review. Overall a very good quality set of versatile brushes, pretty good value for what I’m getting. Also love that it’s not animal hair, both for the sake of the animals and because nylon tends to paint more smoothly and can last a long time with good care. ... show more

Novice painter at best here and so I am starting out with coloring in stuff with oils for now until I get a good feal for the brushes then try my free hand on something special. They are extremely nice the bristles contour effortlessly for you allowing for that expression in the stroke to fully come out. I love the set I am sorry it did show up with a strong paint type smell? on the case but I do not see any paint on it and it looks new, nothing that wont die out I am sure and currently does not bother me. The variety of application the set allows you is incredible, the bristles are on nice and tight and the finish of the handles is appealing I love them and will continue to grow my painting skills one brush at a time. ... show more

Came in a cheap case. Also started falling apart and losing bristles after a couple of uses. Cleaned with brush conditioner. Still had issues.
