I've played drums for probably 20 years now, and I was very excited to set this kit up because it's been a while since I had my own set. Installation wasn't too terrible and took me about an hour or so. Most of the parts are labeled (which helped), but the instructions could benefit from a rewrite. A few of the parts like the metal bars are not labeled so you have to stare at the picture for a while until it clicks. The problem is that the instructions cover several variations of this kit, so you have Step 4 with one variation and then Step 5 with another, to the extent that I was sure more than once that I was missing some parts. It would seem fairly simple if they could throw a unique manual per variation into the box, or at least better organize the instructions. "Step 1" is also just a picture of the entire frame put together, so if you're one who likes detailed step-by-step instructions, you might not enjoy this part. That said, once it is set up, this really is a nice set for the price and for the lower-end category that it falls into. Let's look at each of the drums and cymbals on this kit and compare their pros and cons. 1. Snare: the snare and toms are the exact same drum, just plugged into a different port. I will say that the mesh-type material on the surface feels very nice, and the rim shots work very well. Though it would be nice to have a slightly bigger snare, it is totally usable. 2. Toms: I like having a mesh tom as opposed to those rubber-type ones. I've never really liked those because they don't feel like drums. These feel good and also support rim shots like the snare. Very nice! 3. Cymbals: these are responsive with a level of sensitivity detection that feels pretty good. It will never compare to an actual metal cymbal, but I think they are quite decent. And yes, the instant choke works! You have to squeeze it on the edge of the cymbal. This is a nice touch for a kit this price. 4. High-hat: this is probably my least favorite part of the kit. The pedal is disconnected from the actual high-hat so it is purely digital. It works ok but seems to lack a good "halfway" point between open and closed. Of course, this is also not going to be like a real one at this price point, but it does make me miss that capability, and of course the wood-on-metal feel of a real high-hat is missed. It does have the instant choke like the other cymbals, and I like that after you choke it there's still a faint sound just like would happen in a real high-hat due to the two parts rubbing against each other. 5. Kick: the pedal and the kick itself are very nice and responsive on this set. I do need to find a good way to anchor this thing down on carpet. It has a couple of thumb screws that can kind of dig into the carpet, but it doesn't quite do it. Perhaps a heavy book will take care of it! 6. Stool: it's nice to get a stool with the kit. Though it is fairly basic and has to be taken apart to change the height, it works well and feels comfortable enough. 7. Module: the kit selection is not massive but I was fairly impressed with the sound at this price point. They cover the typical range of kits you would expect and the kicks and snares sound really good. The "songs" are a bit cheesy, but I don't typically use the built in music in these things anyways. There are a good range of ports on this module that should allow you to do what you need to do. It's nice that it comes with a pair of headphones as well, which I was not expecting! In the end, this is a low-priced set that is also marketed as a kid's drum set. Based on those criteria, I'd say this is a very good deal for your money and will probably be hard (and easy *wink* *wink*) to beat! ... show more

My partner (musician) and I (novice who always wanted to learn) are impressed with this kit. The drum pads are very touch-responsive and have great rebound, and all the components are far better quality than I expected from a brand I'd never heard of before. The drum machine itself is straightforward enough that a beginner like myself could figure it out very quickly. And for true beginners, the kit comes with a throne, drumsticks, and even a pair of headphones -- all of which are pretty basic, but enough to get started right out of the box. I imagine most of the people in the market for a kit like this are parents of beginning drummers and apartment/condo dwellers who want to practice at home. So I'll go into the things you should know before buying. 1) The box is very big and very heavy. If this is a holiday present, you're going to have a tough time hiding it until the big day, and you will probably want two people to carry it. 2) All the support bars are metal, and they are held together with plastic connectors that have hinges and knobs. Putting it all together is a little tricky since the parts aren't labeled and the diagrams are small. Additionally, it's wise to not tighten everything down all the way at first, because you will have to adjust positions and angles multiple times as you set up the drums and cymbals. But Step 1 is the hardest part of setup, and everything else is easy in comparison. 3) Having said that, while the legs can be folded in for storage/spacesaving if needed, the connectors weren't really designed for doing that after every use, so I'd advise finding a semi-permanent space to put the kit, like a corner of the basement you don't use. 4) The bass drum head will bounce around if it is not weighed down somehow. We're still trying to figure out something that works. 5) The only true drawback of this kit, which is the case with others, is that the jacks for the pads all run into one cable. This makes cable management a challenge. Also, there are two extra jacks for adding a tom-tom and a cymbal, but I'm not sure where to get extras of either, and whether other manufacturers' would be compatible if they are not available. One big huge plus: the drum machine is Bluetooth compatible. So if you have a pair of headphones or earbuds that you use regularly, you're in luck -- you can use them with this. ... show more

I got my first Electric Drum Set almost 20 years ago and it came with 1/4 of the features and cost 4 times as much as this one so I was amazed at what you got for this price. It has double quiet mesh head drum pads, which feel nice and don’t make a lot of noise. There are 3 cymbals with choke, and a 5" bass drum, making it feel like a real drum set. It comes with 52+ drum kits and 918 authentic sounds, so I can try lots of different styles. The Bluetooth feature lets me connect to my devices, which is great for playing along with my favorite songs. It also includes sticks, seat, hardware and headphones, so I can start drumming right away without bothering anyone.
