  • If you're bothering with this job, get the OE parts.
I've got a 2001 Suburban 1500 with 217k miles on the original engine and transmission. They're both still working great so far, and I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible. About 80k miles ago, I had a "quick lube" shop change the transmission fluid, and gave them a container of "Prolong" to add to the new fluid. They do that job like an oil change ... they don't remove the pan or change the internal trans filter. No problems whatsoever in the interim, so that apparently worked out OK, but I never realized at the time how much of your old trans fluid remains in the pan (mine is the "deep pan" kind) when all you're doing is pulling the drain plug and letting the fluid run out of that opening until it stops. The inside of the drain fitting extends above the bottom of the pan quite a bit, so even when the fluid has stopped running out of the drain bolt hole, there's at least a full quart or so of fluid still pooled in the bottom of the pan, along with all the fine particulate dirt/junk that's worked its way through the trans and filter over the years and settled on the bottom. I was REALLY happy to finally get AT that stuff, remove ALL of it, give the pan a good cleaning and replace the filter. This job is a pretty involved, dirty mess, and the last thing you want to be dealing with once you've successfully removed the pan and pulled the old filter/seal out of the trans case, is some ill-fitting, aftermarket replacement filter/seal and pan gasket. This AC Delco gasket/filter/seal combo is the one MADE for your trans and THIS particular job. If you're doing this job ... just get it. Mine came packaged on a shrink-wrapped piece of cardboad, complete with GM part number/label, all parts in excellent condition. The filter seal tapped into its fitting perfectly, the filter was a dead-on match for the old OE I removed, and it also easily popped into its new seal with a reassuring, snug fit. The gasket was also a perfect fit on the pan ... I didn't even have to do any goofy tricks to line up the bolt holes ... imagine that. While removing/cleaning the pan was a pretty time-consuming, messy task, this kit made putting the whole thing back together a breeze. Once I got to the re-assembly part, I found that I was happily tightening down all the bolts and refilling the trans case with fresh fluid within minutes. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Gasket is a pain to install, Not the Gasket You get at the Chevy Dealership
The good: It is definitely a Ac delco filter and is an exact fit for a 2004 chevy Tahoe 4.8. Make sure to choose the deep pan option!! The Bad: On a scale of 1-10, one being the easiest chevy to put a filter on and 10 the hardest this would be an 8.I say an 8 because the aftermarket filters actual hold the bolts in place so that u can lift the pan with the bolts already on the gasket and in the pan which makes changing a breeze. This one takes a little but of maneuvering to get thr gasket In the right place and get the bolts through. Also make sure you jack the truck up high enough or you are going to have more difficulty . Also, I feel it is worth mentioning that the gasket on this filter is not the nice gasket with the metal running through it like you would get at the chevy dealership. Overall for the price and it being a delco product, it's not a bad deal, just know what you are getting into when u buy it ... show more

  • Just grab the original AC Delco, or chance having to buy 2 like me...
So first, I purchased another brand filter for my '04 Trailblazer EXT. Turns out, that was a bad decision. These filter kits include a small around seal that seals the filter pipe into the trans and the one that was included with the first filter I purchased DIDN'T FIT. It wasn't too large, it was actually too small and would FALL RIGHT OUT. That isn't going to seal crap! That first filter I purchased months ago, so it was too late to return it. I decided to not take chances and just buy the original AC Delco one the second time around and it's what I should have done from the start. The AC Delco kit fit just perfect, as I would expect. Another thing that's nice about the AC Delco kis is that it's shipped and sealed on a flat piece of cardboard so the pan gasket isn't all folded up and will sit flat when you go to install. The AC Delco isn't really expensive and for the peace of mind of doing it right the first time, it's well worth it. ... show more
