    • Excellent E-bike Hampered by Poor Firmware

Really, this is an excellent E-bike that is well built and extremely powerful, but with two major cons that make it hard for me to get full enjoyment out of it, both having to do with the inability to reprogram the controller. As other reviews have have already gone over the hardware of the E-bike, my review will focus on the software. TL:DR - Poor Range and Not Compatible with Reprogramming Software. Into the weeds... First, the heart of the ColaBear is the BAFANG BBS02 Mid Drive Motor - a well respected motor from a well respected brand with a large modding community and plenty of aftermarket support, which means ample parts availability. This motor is also programable to the user's specifications with the use of a special cable and a laptop or Android phone equipped with the Speeed App; my issue is with the fact Accolmile decided to equip the ColaBear with Proprietary Firmware that is NOT COMPATIBLE with any reprogramming software, something which I find unacceptable. My Second issue is with the range; at a measly average of 25 miles per charge, riding only on Eco 1/5 with pedal assist, this falls far short of the advertised range - the thing is, if I could reprogram the controller, I could easily rectify this issue. The ColaBear is equipped with a 48V, 17.5AH battery that uses LG 10A High Drain 18650 cells; according to the manufacturer, these cells have a minimum discharge rating 2.5 volts, but Accolmile programmed the motor's controller with a low battery cutoff @ 3.10 volts, leaving a huge portion of the battery's capacity unused. This means you need to charge the battery more often, and since lithium ion batteries deteriorate with every charge, I will have to replace the battery much sooner than I would have had to otherwise. Luckily, the controller containing Accolmile's locked firmware can be replaced with an OEM Bafang part, rectifying the issue, but at an additional cost to the end user, not to mention that it would most likely void the warranty. In the end, this is an Great Bike, paired to an Excellent Motor, that is held back by the bizarre programming decisions made by Accolmile; by all accounts the ColaBear, which is very competitively priced @ $1900 should get 5 stars, but since I need to spend more time and money just to get the full potential I payed for, I have to dock points. ... show more

The bike is nice to ride .lt goes 34 mph with peddle assist .the range is only 30 miles ,And the chain falls off .other than that it is a good bike.

    • Great mid-drive bike, highly recommended

Really great value. I live in a hilly area and gave up riding my bike as I dreaded the steep hill climb to get back to the house. I learned about ebikes and figured it would be a great solution. I made the mistake of getting a Bird bike, a single gear hub drive that just didn't have the power to make it up the hill and ended up having to walk the bike up. Returned that, did more research and found that to climb hills gears and a mid-drive motor to take advantage of the gears was superior. However most mid-drive bikes I found were in the $5000 price range. I was happy to find this Accolmile Cola Bear and it has been able to climb the hills with no problem at all. The hydraulic brakes also give me the confidence of being able to stop going down hills. I thought the frame looked sleeker than the Rocket Bear but pleasantly found there were some other improvements. The handlebar grips are a more ergonomic design with wrist support and ant-slip rather than the typical cylindrical ones. The display has been upgraded. Really hard to find another bike with mid drive, hydraulic brakes, suspension, multiple gears, powerful motor, big battery anywhere near this price range. After testing out the first bike I bought three more for the rest of the family. Only minuses was the seat is a bit hard for me but that was easily replaced. And I would have liked some screw holes for a water bottle mount but these are minor issues easily remedied with after market parts. ... show more

I wanted a bike with range and power and the Colabear has not disappointed me. If you want to accelerate up steep hills, this is the bike for you! I rarely get past level 1 of the five assist levels. As much as I like it, the weight and power seemed like too much for my wife. At her weight, this thing would be like riding a rocket! Instead I bought her a smaller step thru bike which she loves. The bike stores around here are still busy post-covid, and won't work on bikes they don't sell. I have minimal bike fix experience, but I bought a bike toolkit and a repair book and will try to hack it. So far, all I've had to do after assembly is secure a loose cable with a zip tie and replace the chain with a Shimano, as recommended by another reviewer which fixed an intermittent chain skip. Now it's running perfectly. There are electric bikes everywhere in my town and some entrepreneurial bike mechanic is going to step up and start fixing them. Until, then, I'll hack the maintenance myself. The bike looks beautiful and seems very well made. It appears to cost less than half of what they are charging at local bike stores. I'm using it primarily to commute and it's cut my commute time in half while still allowing me to get some exercise. I'm thrilled with it! ... show more

First, you simply will not find another ebike that is mid drive, full suspension, hydraulic breaks, 750w motor and so much more at this price. The built quality is great. I've been riding it and it is exactly what I expected. Second, the customer service is out of this world. Just wow, wow, they bent backwards for me. So, when the bike came in, the headlamp was damage during shipping, they sent me a new one. Then I noticed my gear shifter is a bit stuck after shifting, they gave me an option for them to ship me a replacement or I can just buy one and they reimburse me. I chose the ladder because it was faster. There's even more to the customer service, but I won't bore you, all I can say is the customer service is better than most domestic sellers, I was blown away. Most importantly, this bike is a great product, so much to say why it's great but I'm just simply too lazy to type so much. Now stop thinking, just buy this bike and rest assured that the company will stand behind it's product. ... show more
