When I wash dishes, or lean forward while playing cards or doing a puzzle, this brace provides support for my middle back. It is not a forceful or ridged solid, like a board, but allows a small bit of forward motion. It keeps me from leaning forward for any amount of time, which is exactly what I need, almost as a reminder (but it is definitely a brace) to sit straight as much as I can. I still can only go so long, but it is much longer than before, without the miserable aching later (unless, of course, I overdo it!). I bought this brace because if had the extra straps to hold the brace away from your arm pits. But those braces do not come forward enough to help a 2X woman.
