Hat Kid must now jump, fight and stitch new hats to make her way into every nook and cranny of this new world in order to restore her fuel and resume her journey. On her way, she'll bump into the menacing Mafia of Cooks, the goofy birds of Dead Bird Studio, the spooky shadows of Subcon Forest, and more! Murder on a Train! Parades! Trespassing in a Movie Studio? Every mission in A Hat in Time is unique! At one moment you'll be solving the Murder on the Owl Express by finding clues and interrogating the locals, the next moment you'll be the band marshal in The Big Parade, or sneaking through the bird-run Dead Bird Studio! Small Child, Giant Worlds Jump freely around in 5 massive worlds with new adventures to discover around every corner. Just like any child, Hat Kid loves to climb and explore, no mountain is too big for her sense of adventure. She can do multiple jump moves, as well as climb walls, and swing over gaps! Cute Hats, Magical Yarn and Snappy Badges By finding and collecting rare magical yarn, Hat Kid can stitch new cute hats with a variety of abilities, including a witch hat that allows her to cook explosive concoctions, and a wooden ghost mask that allows her to peek into other dimensions. • A snarky 3D platformer
I specifically went out of my way to find this game since I played a friend's copy previously. It is in essence a 3D platformer where you play as a space travelling girl (child) that is forced to search for her ship fuel (hour glasses) after someone busts a hole in her ship. The main cast of characters are actually pretty snarky throughout the game and their dialogue is not the usual "oh, hello X. Let me kiss the ground you walk on!" The dialogue does not change if you talk to them again, but the way it is written made me laugh a few times. You run around smacking enemies with an umbrella too, which is fairly amusing. The only real annoyance I have with the game is each hour glass collected completes the level and takes you back to the ship to select the next level. There is only ONE level in the late game where you need to run around and collect several hour glasses at once while doing a series of tasks. Problem with that is it feels like the developers just threw it together in one level to be done with it. It is not like Yooka Laylee where you can stay in the level as long as you want and collect multiple items. I wish it was. Overall, it is a 5 star because A) I liked the game and played it through the final boss, B) I got about 30 hours of time out of it, C) There is STILL more to complete if I chose, and D) The dialogue amused me. It is overall what I expected/wanted, and my personal grip above is just me wishing more games were like Yooka Laylee in level design. I would recommend it is you like 3D platforms, or if you find it on a decent sale. ... show more

  • Frustrating Local Co-Op
The game looked nice and ran well on the PS5; however, the local co-op was horrible. One player has control of the camera, and there is no split screen which made it difficult for the second player to actually play the game.

  • Disk will not finish installing
I've never had an issue with my installs. I installed a game just before this one fine. This one gets about halfway through and then stalls and had to keep retrying. It totally stops at about 6-7 gigs out of the 7.7 total. If I find this is an issue with my machine then I'll correct this review.

  • Decent Title
There's not much new here, so if you're looking for that, I recommend keeping an open mind. My favorite part of this game was the shift from cutesy platformer to almost survival horror elements in a non horror title. The changes in gameplay are unexpected and that's what makes it so fun.
