  • Just what our studio has been looking for!
These books are exactly what we have been looking for. Our studio, Fox Music Instruction (find us on Facebook), has a focus on inspiring our students to explore the depth of expression found in classical music. Because of this, we have found it somewhat difficult to source arrangements of classical masterpieces that are appropriate for the level of our students. These books address that need wonderfully. There are around a dozen "First books" focusing on a single composer's works and two other books that are more general and help students explore many different composers' works in the same book. The only downside to the series is that there are no offerings specifically suited to primer or early level 1 students. These books are more levels 2-4 approximately. However, that does not detract from the value of what is offered in my view. We have decided to implement these books as a regular part of the repertoire curriculum for our students (who are of the right level) henceforth. In summation, while these books may not suit the needs of every student or studio, they do a wonderful job suiting the vision of our studio and the needs of many of our students! ... show more

  • Wonderful for Children
My little 4 year old grandson loves classical music, so I've purchased a number of these Beginning Pianist books for him. They offer a little information about the composer and about each piece of music, along with the first page or two of sheet music for each piece. The sheet music is very simplified, so it's not overwhelming for a child. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Its all wrong
What is not apparent in the ad presentation is that this book is simplified for a beginning pianist. It is two hands but the rhythms are quarter notes and half notes, and for the most part, it is not hands together. I really don't see the point of calling it Tchaikovsky when he never wrote in these simple terms. If that is all one can play right now, then stick with the level two books and continue with simple music until one is capable of playing from the genuine score. Even learning to play his music on this form is wasted because when one gets accomplished enough to work on it, the music will have to be relearned anyway because there is probably nothing in this book that relates to the genuine music, and this book will probably confuse the student when the piece has already been learned incorrectly One will have to forget what this book taught in order to learn the genuine score, and that can be quite difficult. Tchaikovsky is extremely emotional music and I doubt the subjection can be grasp in this form. The more I think about it, I am going to return it. Its all wrong. As for the quality of the book, as a book, the pages are stuck together because they were printed on a large sheet of paper then folded in the proper way, then trimmed to cut the pages apart. This book was not trimmed well and the pages are still joined. To cut them apart would leave rough, uneven edges. This company's books ate generally flawless. This book should be considered a second or damaged even while it has never been completely opened due to the lack of usefulness of the music. ... show more
