Description

This compilation of easy-to-play ragtime favorites features 24 rollicking melodies by "The Big Three" of ragtime — Scott Joplin, James Scott, and Joseph Lamb — plus pieces by Eubie Blake, Tom Turpin, and other artists. Popular tunes include "Maple Leaf Rag," "The Entertainer," and "Tiger Rag." Novices of all ages will delight in these simplified arrangements of carefully selected pieces. The editor provides suggested fingerings and comments on each piece that include background on the composers and tips for performance. Along with the twenty-four piano arrangements, this collection includes a free MP3 download for every piece, which will help beginning pianists develop an ear for the melodies. The MP3s may be downloaded individually or collectively. Read more

  • Very good for starting out
At first I was a bit disappointed because the songs are short, but I love ragtime and I can believe that simplifying some parts would lose the feel. Very happy with the book

i liked the the berklee jazz standard for solo piano because it learns me or gives some ideas how to harmonize a melody with jazz voicings i would appreciate very much if you can offer me some other books that teach how to harmonize a jazz standard with jazz chord voicings

  • Great addition to my studio library!
Bought this book to use when teaching my music students (mostly piano) about ragtime and jazz for black history month. I was impressed with the amount of songs in the book, and the quality of the arrangements. I even used a couple of the arrangements for our spring recital. I also liked that there was a variety in skill levels in this book - I could use it for my 2nd year students through my 4th year students. Also, there were biographical “blurbs” at the top of each page, which was helpful, and piqued the kids’ curiosity enough that many did their own research into the songs and composers. Overall, a very well done book for a great price! ... show more

  • Rewarding resource for beginners!
As a beginning pianist, these arrangements are doable, but make me feel I am actually paying something. Each tune has its own different challenges. I have referred this to my ano teacher who teaches mostly children. She has been delighted with how theyhave taken to it, so mych so that they are using them for their first recitals. This is a real resource, and I enthusiastically endorse thiswork! ... show more

  • Great beginner book
This book is really great for someone just beginning to play but not yet ready for easy piano versions of ragtime. I’ve been really wanting to learn The Entertainer, but the left hand parts are just too above my ability right now. This book is exactly the level I needed.
