  • Great for Advanced Beginners Who Can Read Music! Super Selection!
The media could not be loaded. My students enjoy this book! The arrangements are fairly easy, but students need to be able to read music and play with both hands. Timing on some can be tricky, which as a teacher is a good thing because I know my students are learning. I would call it more of an advanced-beginner book. It presents enough challenge to keep my students interested and the song selection is excellent. My students are able to learn the Christmas songs they love while being presented with some challenge. From children to adults, my students are happy learning these treasured Christmas songs to play for themselves, in church, for family and friends. ... show more

  • Great arrangements for beginners
I haven't learned or even played all the music in the collection, however I've found that the music that I have played is arranged beautifully. In addition, the music is simple enough for a beginner ( and believe me, I AM a beginner), but it's also challenging enough to maintain interest and, as stated before, beautifully arranged. Anther thing I like about this book is that it's easy to read. A different music book I have, the music is too small and I struggle to read it. Not so with A First Book of Christmas Songs. Fingering and lyrics are included. Yay! I am very glad that I made this purchase! ... show more

  • Disappointing Song Choices
This is the first sheet music that I have purchased since quitting piano lessons as a kid. Since working with my six-year-old on her music classes I have gotten back in to playing around with music myself and decided that I wanted to pick up some Christmas songs to mess around with. Despite having taken quite a few years of piano lessons as a kid, I am definitely a beginner at this point. Here is the Table of Contents: We Wish You a Merry Christmas O, Come All Ye Faithful Silent Night Joy to the World What Child is This? Hark! The Herald Angels Sing The First Noelle O Come, O Come, Emmanuel O Christmas Tree Jingle Bells Deck the Hall Pat-a-pan The Coventry Carol God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen Away in a Manger The Song of the Birds We Three Kings of Orient Are Angels We Have Heard on High O Little Town of Bethlehem Shepherds, O Shepherds! PROs: songs are easy I think this book is very accurate in calling itself “songs for the beginning pianist.” They aren’t so easy that they’re boring, but I haven’t had trouble reading the music or playing rough versions of the songs on just my first run-through. CONs: odd song choices; heavy on the religious songs and several unfamiliar songs There are certainly a lot of beautiful religious Christmas songs, but I was hoping that there would be more of the non-religious, bouncy, fun Christmas favorites. Many of these slow, somber religious songs are just not all that fun to play or sing and aren’t among my favorites at Christmas time. There are also several songs that I don’t recognize which seems odd in such a short collection. I do like that the book claims that the pieces are arranged in order of difficulty so there is the chance for gradually improving your piano skills as you work through this book. But this might be frustrating for a beginner looking to play a specific song later in the book. ... show more

  • Perfect for beginners
Just what my granddaughter wanted. Easy sheet music with finger numbering of most all of the traditional Christmas songs.

  • Most of the songs are great!
This is not a review of the seller, but the actual content of the product. I teach beginning-intermediate piano and I changed around a lot of the hand positions in some songs because it involved situations where the hands would almost be on top of each other. So some of the arrangements are a little weird. But, overall pretty good for late beginner/early intermediate players. I love the last song, it's so fun! ... show more

  • Perfect for beginners!
You need a few lessons before using the book, but it’s easy to pick up. My piano students like them a lot!
