A Bar Above Stainless Steel Single Wine Opener This wine opener is great. The metal is much more solid and substantial than with plastic wine keys. The corkscrew works smoothly and effectively and the lifting knuckle (not sure what that part is called) has good integrity. I like that this is a USA-based, family-owned company, too. The only thing I don't absolutely love, and knocked one star off for, is that the foil-cutting blade isn't as tight as the rest of the device. It wobble back side to side a lot.     • I didn't know I needed this wine key!
Okay, I'll be honest; I wasn't enthusiastic about the idea of reviewing a wine key. Yeah, they got the weight right and it feels good in the hand, but it seemed a little gimmicky to include a "non-stick" coating on the corkscrew. Fah! I was convinced that it would work well enough, but not enough to notice. Boy, was I wrong! I had dinner guests tonight and selected a bottle of wine to share and I wasn't really thinking about the qualities of the wine key when I pulled it out to open the bottle. Whew! The corkscrew went in so smoothly that I was taken by surprise. Hilariously, I've been humming that 90's song, Smooth Operator by Sade ever since (if you don't know it, check it out!). I'm going to be using my "smooth operator" to open all my wine bottles from now on. ...unless they're screw tops, and then I'll just use my hands... But otherwise, A Bar Above non-stick wine key will be my go-to corkscrew! ... show more

A couple of years ago I got tired of the gimmicky wine openers and purchased one that was supposedly used by bartenders and looked like it had all of the features I wanted. I have noticed it is used at some restaurants. So, I saw this one and it looked like the one a purchased a few years ago (and still works great), but I wanted to see how it compares. Look at the picture. Can you see any difference? The only difference I see is the name engraved on the handle. They look identical, so I would expect this to function as well as the one I've used for the past few years. Someone mentioned that the blade is a little loose. I checked both of mine and yes, they are a little loose (I never noticed). I haven't had any problem with it yet, so I wouldn't expect any problem with this new one too. I picked this up to replace an old corkscrew and separate bottle opener we keep in our cooler for tailgating and travel. Having one tool to do both jobs is great. Having only owned it for 30 minutes, the first thing I did was open a bottle of wine and then sit down to write this review. The 2-stage design is convenient for the occasional extra-tight, hard to open cork. No more hard pulls, just use the second link and lever it the rest of the way out. Excellent. The satin finish on the stainless steel looks great, so, this could set on your bar and look nice, not cheap and nothing plastic. The screw is slick, looks like it has some sort of nonstick coating on it. Easy in, easy out. The foil cutter is small, but does the job without any trouble. Overall, very satisfied with this tool.     • Nice heavy wine opener
This wine opener has a great weight to it so you don't feel that it will snap when you apply pressure. Everything opens easily. I like that there is a foil cutter on the opener so I don't have to dig for a knife to open which also means it's an all in one making it easier to use on the run. As added bonus it has a bottle opener that works great. The corkscrew is nice and sharp and slides through the cork easily. That was main reason for getting this new one was to replace an one that I struggled to turn within a cork. Very happy with this opener and can see me using for many years. ... show more

I've used a lot of cork screws over the years as someone who used to work in the alcohol industry. The hinges on this cork screw is smooth and stable. The foil cutter, something often overlooked, is one of the best I've used, creating a clean easy cut in the foil. It's sturdy and removes the cork with ease.
