    • Ok for the $$$ but mine needed a slight modification.
The unit seems well made, quality coated and does fit a Canon 5D MK II body as advertised. However I have noticed that the small hex head bolts at the 4 corners of the assembly can loosen up occasionally. But my main complaint is that once the body is securely fastened to the cage, the battery door cannot be opened. There isn't any lateral play to adjust for this at the point of attachment, which appears that it would only require about 1mm additional space to accommodate the swing of the door. Not a huge problem but it did require a small amount of filing to open up the space between the battery door and the frame. I'm sure that this modification will void any warranty claims but I don't anticipate that I would need to make one, as in general the unit is solid, it just needs care occasionally. ... show more

Although not specifically listed in the recommended models, this cage works just fine for our ancient Canon T2i, which is helpful when we want to do some old school (now) hand-held videos with a DSLR. There are a ton of mounting points, which we've used to connect a matte box, microphones, small video lights, and even side-mounted handle grips.     • Excellent Camera Cage With Outstanding Build Quality
This DSLR Camera Cage is easy to assemble, and all the parts are very high quality. The aluminum frame handle feels and looks very nice as well. I attached the Topcine cage to my Canon 7D using the smaller of the two posts that are included. It fits very well and feels extremely secure. Excellent quality. Even at twice the price, this would be a good value. Good Ergonomics. The cage handles feel nice and sturdy and offer many different mounting solutions. Ease of Use. The cage was quite simple to attach to my EOS 7D. It took about 5 minutes. Expand-ability. This cage has multiple locations to add accessories to. Looks. The Topcine cage has a great finish that feels and looks durable. The screws that it comes with also seem to be high quality. The handle has a nice finish and feel. The screw that attaches to the camera base does not have a flip up tab so you will need use a screwdriver or a coin. This is literally the only negative thing that I can find with this cage. This is a very generic cage that is being marketed for 5 different Canon camera bodies including 7D. Its one thing to fit the camera into the cage and another to really use it. For EOS 7D this cage is simply unusable, the front scroll wheel is buried in a way that you have to move your entire hand back to access it, even then you can't really move the wheel comfortably. Now to press the shutter again you have to move your hand not just finger forward and press the shutter. How many of us shoot like that? EOS 7D has a built-in flash on camera which sits little further ahead compared to 5D bodies. The top of this cages touches the flash portion so there is no wiggle to adjust it backward. Another problem with this cage is that it doesn't have any way to prevent camera twisting. There is no anti twist pin anywhere and there are wide spaces left all around the camera body. Once you put all your accessories on to the cage and mount the camera its not a reliable setup. There is a reason the camera cages are made for specific camera body. Mostly the bottom plate has front edge which sits flush with the camera base and stabilizes it. Often there are pins to stop the twist. Its all the more important with the bigger SLR bodies vs the mirrorless compacts. I ordered cage after seeing that 7D is listed in the product title. After receiving the cage I realized it very similar to a cage that I purchased sometime ago which didn't work well with 7D. The other cage was not marketed for 7D but only for 5D models. I took a chance because it was 1/3 price of this one with a handle as well. That one was another brand here Andoer, the two cages are identical in every aspect, but they never mentioned 7D in their product description. I didn't return then because I knowingly took a chance to try it. You can see the two cages in pictures. Currently I do not have any 5D body to test it. Looking at some images it seem that even a 5D III body bottom is not sitting flush to the cage front edge, if that's true then this cage has serious design issue. Its a generic cage which is not fit for any of mentioned camera. If it really fits well to some canon bodies, the seller should include actual picture of that camera with the cage. That will help people make a more informed decision. ... show more
