Description

Woodworkers Fretsaw by Knew Concepts Made in USA, these fret saws are designed for quickly cutting waste from hand-cut dovetails. Their innovative truss-like frames are light-weight and far easier to use than their predecessors - the traditional jewelers fret saws. This light-weight but stiff frame reduces the occurrence of blade breakage and the thumb-screw blade clamps make it a cinch to install a blade. Gone is the awkward tensioning procedure associated with traditional fret saws. A simple cam lever easily tensions the blade in a second and you're ready to put the saw to use. The unique blade mounting system allows the blade to be swiveled 45 degrees right or left and a detent locks the blade at center. This is quickly accomplished by rotating the cam tensioner to release the tension, then retention the saw blade. This 5in. size weighing 5.2 oz.will accommodate coping and larger fret work while still doing a superb job of removing waste from hand-cut dovetails.

  • Great saw with a minor quirk to get past
Out of the box, this saw works great! However, it has a minor quirk to get past the first time you change the blade. When cutting with the included blade, the saw is amazing! However, the first time you change the blade, it will suddenly become the most frustrating saw you've ever used. The blade will snap loose as soon as you put tension on it. This seems to defeat the entire design of this tool. After lots of frustration, I would finally get the blade to stay in place only to have it sag during a cut as it would slowly slide looser and looser. I ruined about two blades before I did some searching online. Right on the manufacturer's website, they address this issue. You remove the screws that hold the blade in place, sand the end of them until the coating is removed, and put them back in place. After this, no issues! If you encounter this, go to the manufacturer's website, read the FAQ section, and watch the video. After this quick fix, the saw works great! So much better than the inexpensive coping and fret saws. I use it to cut dovetail waste and it tackles the job with no issue. I'm sure it will prove to be more versatile for me going forward. Overall, it's an awesome saw. I'm deducting one star given the frustration of the blade slipping. Normally, this wouldn't be an issue, but given the premium price, I expect not to encounter this. After all, if the issue is known enough to include it on their website, they should fix it in manufacturing. Regardless, I do highly recommend the saw! Just fix the problem on first blade change. ... show more

  • Fantastic saw for cutting dovetail waste.
This is probably the best fret saw on the market. I use it for woodworking and cutting away dovetail waste. It does a great job and the ability to tilt the blade is an excellent feature. The saw fits perfectly between the hand saw kerf and allows for close and accurate cuts. I am only giving it 4 stars because mine was delivered with a slightly bent blade, which caused it to break on the first use. I have since purchased replacement blades and it performs as expected. ... show more

  • WORTH IT
I was hesitant to order this fret saw, especially when you can get a coping saw for 10 bucks. I was even thinking I would try it out and return it. I was having buyer's remorse while it was still in transit to me. When it arrived. I swapped out the blade it came with (12 tpi) and put in a 20 tpi blade. Swapping blades was super easy. The knobs loosen and tighten with ease, and the blade was secured in moments. Tensioning the blade was a breeze as well, simply twist a knob and flip a latch, until the blade 'sings' when you pluck it. I quickly scribed some dovetail lines into a board of maple, cut into it with my dozuki saw, and then dropped this fret saw with the 20 tpi blade into the kerf. I held my breath as I made the first few motions, and the blade cut into the wood. I kept my hand steady and cut a clean line clear across the distance of the tail, popping out the waste with ease. I barely had to chisel away any waste. This saw has single handedly transformed my dovetailing making process, it has cut off so much time, it is already worth it's price. ... show more

  • Big step up from coping saw
Great product. Fit and finish are excellent. Blade tension is easy to adjust and also release when not being used. Tracks the cut line well and makes very tight turns. Only negative which is the reason for only 4 stars is the TOO small handle. If it had a larger handle option it would be 5 stars in my book. ... show more
