  • Easy to use, basic water rocket parts (just add bottle & tire pump). Enjoyed by kids and adults.
Very fun for all ages - adults liked playing with it as much as the kids. Works great. "A good time that was had by all". Comes with - 2 rubber cork plugs - 2 sets of 3 fins (and a spare fin for each set, tho they seem pretty durable, no breaks yet) - 2 plastic air tubes to connect tire pump to rubber cork in water bottle. - 4 small plastic connectors for connecting tire pump to the rubber cork via clear plastic tube (basically, one connector thru rubber cork, connect clear tube, another connector for bike pump; 2 sets) Minimal assembly: Insert tire pump connector thru the rubber cork provided so it sticks out thru wider part of rubber cork (only goes 1 way, cant mess it up) Connect clear plastic tube to connector on rubber cork, and insert other small connector into the other end of the clear tube to connect to tire pump (basically, 1 connector for each end of clear tube). Fill water bottle 1/3 full with water. Press the rubber cork into bottom of bottle. Press HARD. The harder you press it in, the more pressure is needed to pop it out and the higher it will go. Stand rocket up on fins as its launch pad. Start pumping the bike tire pump until the cork pops out and the rocket launches. (While reading about these bottle rockets, I could never figure out what the release mechanism was to actually launch the rocket - turns out its a function of how tightly you insert the rubber cork, thats it). We were launching 200-300 feet in the air once we figured out we just need to push the rubber cork in harder. While you can use any 1 liter bottle, I prefer the Seagrams Tonic 1 liter bottle - cuz then I have an excuse to make Gin & Tonics too! However, the Polar brand Tonic bottle is more streamlined, looks more like a rocket. And you can cut the top off another bottle to attach it on top of the main engine bottle for a bigger rocket, and a more streamlined look. (pointed nose vs flat bottom of main bottle on top) Google around and you will see examples. ... show more

  • Great toy! Needs extra fins
This is fantastic for fun and learning for kids. However if you lose the one fin/stand that it come with itโ€™s money down the drain. We lost ours over into the neighbors pasture the first day, while learning and experimenting with water amounts and the psi. It was great but really should come with an extra. Otherwise youโ€™re just paying for a plastic one liter bottle ... show more

  • This rocket is tons of fun!
I bought this to use with my preschool class during a space exploration unit. My nephew won one in a raffle a few years ago at his school, but no longer had it. I had to get one knowing how fun they are. I had some fun testing it out with my nephew over the weekend before trying it with my students. Everything went fine. I waited a few days into the school week to use it with my students because of wind. We finally had a pretty calm day, milder weather, so I decided it was launch day. Sadly we only got two launches because the wind that felt non-existent somehow carried our rocket way off course as it descended. It sailed over a fence and into an orchard that is inaccessible. I was very bummed about it, but my students thought it was amazing. I like this rocket set but I might try a different product in the future so that if I lose a bottle I can just replace it with another one. ... show more

  • Feel like a kid again
I bought this as a lark for my 60th birthday and had a blast. I installed the pieces on an empty 2-liter bottle instead of the 1-liter bottle that comes with the package. Then filled it about 1/3 with water and let 'er rip. It launched into the air about 90' high! The one problem I had was that the plastic air fitting it came with was just a bit too small in diameter to fit the air pump. So I had to make up my own fitting to work. That gets a 1-star deduction. ... show more

  • Little bit of science but lots of fun
Bought this for my 8 year old grandson and with some supervision, he and his friends had a blast! Itโ€™s not especially durable and we had to tweak the part that connects the bottle to the pump each time but that was no big deal because we all had such a fun time.

  • Simple construction that actually works
I liked how the KISS principle was utilized to construct the water rocket. I was once a judge at a high school science fair where there was a water rocket competition, and had the opportunity to inspect many unique pressurization and release ideas, but this has to be the simplest method yet. A single hole stopper (plug), provides a means to seal the bottle and to pressurize it through the stopper hole. When the pressure is great enough to expel the stopper the water is blasted out of the bottle and it launches. No O-rings, washers, release paws, pull chords etc. As a result, my 7 year old grandson, can fill the bottle, put the stopper in place, stand the rocket on it's tail fins, pump pressure into it with a tire pump, watch it fly, and do it again and again all by himself while I supervise for safety reasons. The more firmly the stopper is inserted into the bottle neck the greater is the pressure required to expel the stopper, and this greater pressure propels the bottle rocket higher. We have achieved flight times of greater than 10 seconds, and heights well over the advertised 90 ft when his father pressed the stopper in as much as he could. As for my grandson he is very happy even though when he does it , it only flies to about 50 feet. This is a great science toy for learning. I posed the question " How high would the rocket go if we did not put water in it ?", My grandson promptly said " it will go higher because without the water it is lighter". When the rocket launched all that happened was loud pop, and the rocket went up about 12 feet. This sparked a conversation about how a rocket works. But it also introduced him to the scientific method . The net result was that we all had a great time. Money well spent. Would recommend . ... show more
