    • The best in its price range
EDIT: the seller actively solicits 5-star reviews in exchange for money or gift card. Be wary. Very impressed with this dash cam given the price. This doesn't give you all the options of other higher tier dash cams, but if you just want basic forward facing recording, this is it. Its two best qualities are its design and its ease of installation. Every dash cam should be designed like this one. Very compact with a nice rounded look and very unobtrusive. USB-C connector is a big plus. The cigarette lighter connector it comes with doesn't have an extra port, so I had to buy a separate 20-ft cable to use with my existing one. Supposedly you can hardwire this one for parking monitoring but I'm doing the basic use of car off = camera off. There is no battery in the unit. Crazy easy to mount the camera; just peel and stick (you don't need the film that comes in the box). The camera will swivel up and down when mounted (but not side to side). The part of the camera that mounts is actually part of a 2-in-1 shell casing making it so that you can remove the main camera but keep the mount still in place. You would do this to access the SD card slot or to temporarily move the camera to film something in a different direction. Speaking of SD card, definitely get the 256GB type that they recommend. Be aware that it only works with certain SD cards and it has to be formatted first. The video quality is not the smoothest out there but, again, great for the price. You can record up to 4K resolution, which I find is just too big of a video file and have mine set at FHD (1440p). The app and features are a little confusing at first but not complicated. The app has its flaws but actually works pretty well. The way your phone has to connect to it is a little annoying but probably typical. Here are the reasons I give it 4 stars instead of 5: One, the user manual. It's confusing, repetitive, and has many grammatical mistakes (from translation). Two, it's almost TOO basic with only one hardware button (which can be used for locking the current video or stopping the recording). I wish there was a hardware button for muting the microphone. You CAN mute audio recording, but you have to do so in the app. Three, you can't explore or change any settings if your phone isn't currently connected to the cam. Fourth, I don't like how it automatically breaks up the video files into segments of no more than 5 minutes each (you can choose to have it record in 1, 2, 3, or 5 minute segments). You should be able to record one drive in one file if you want. This also makes it so that when you lock (save) a video, you don't know at the time where that segment starts and stops. ... show more

    • Disappointing video quality
I wanted a basic, simple to use dash cam that was compact, 4K, and used removable microSD media, preferably powered via a cigarette lighter outlet. This camera met all of those requirements. Plus the price was very attractive and the build quality is excellent. So why only 4 stars? Read on ... I am very happy with every aspect of the camera EXCEPT the video quality. The 4K/60Hz video is recorded at ~25Mbps and it has noticeable compression artifacts (blurry, blocky) due to the significant compression being applied. I really wish it had a higher bit rate to improve the video quality. It should be at least 100Mbps. The microSD they recommend (Samsung Select) specs a transfer speed of 130MBps, which is 1Gbps, so maintaining a 100Mbps write stream should be possible. Ideally it would be a setting so the user could choose better quality or more recording capacity (higher bit rates mean bigger files). On the positive side, the microSD, which was formatted by the camera, was readable on my PC with no problem and I was able to play the clips using VLC without having to install any additional drivers or codecs. Also, there is no time gap between the clips so when I imported 4 consecutive 1 minute clips into Open Shot and stitched them together, there was no discontinuity -- the resulting 4 minute video was smooth and you could not detect the seams between the individual clips. The included cable was just barely long enough for my 2020 Honda CRV, which has the cigarette outlet in the compartment between the seats. The app (Android) is minimalist, but does the job. I had no problem connecting to the camera, changing its settings, and downloading clips. There is a single button on the camera that performs 3 functions: - short press tells it to lock the current video - long (3 second press) tells it to stop/start recording (it defaults to recording upon power up) - long (5 second press) reverts all settings to factory default This last function is a poor choice. When you are driving and trying to press and hold the button, the difference between 3 seconds and 5 seconds is not that much. I could see myself easily, accidentally reverting all settings to the factory default. Usually devices like this have a small hole into which you insert a paperclip to reset them. That would have been a much better way to reset to factory settings. The only way to format the SD is via the app. That is unfortunate. If not for that you could use this camera without requiring a smart phone. I think (very) long pressing the button (for, say, 10 seconds), followed by a voice prompt asking you to long press again for confirmation would be a nice way to format the card. I gave 4 stars despite the mediocre video quality because this is not a high end camera, and everything else about it was excellent, especially for the price. ... show more

    • Easy to setup and use
I purchased one of these for myself then another five for each of my families vehicles. Setup is all done via cell phone and the instructions are very clear. They give you plenty of options to configure with your device, including updating its security settings from default! (That’s a BIG plus in my book!) I do have a few complaints. 1. Default sensitivity is way too sensitive. 1a. Setting it to the lowest setting fixes most locked video problems. 2. MicroSD card slot is slightly recessed making it semi difficult to get the card to lock in place. 2a. Use the corner of a key, dime, or penny to push in the MicroSD card gently till it locks in place. 3. Chance to overheat while your car is parked. 3a. Park in the shade if you have this problem. (I have 6 of these cameras total, and only one camera does this boot loop chime while hot.) ... show more

Turns on when the car is turned on. Turns off when the car turns off. You need to get a microSD card for loop storage. The quality & sound quality is great & it was easy to set up. Not a huge fan of the software. The app could definitely be better & getting the videos to your phone can be a pain. I live in Texas and this past summer with temperatures 105°F+ did not affect the camera or adhesive at all. Pretty durable & has a great field of view. Highly recommend for the price ... show more

Great video quality! Only thing I dislike is that it only comes with one 3M mount sticker. Living in an area with a lot of hot days, the sticker tends to melt off and thru my camera falls off my windshield and leaving giant scratches in my cars LES display screen. Permanent marks I cannot get out. Please re-think adding extra 3M mounting stickers to the purchase. ... show more
