I’m a bit surprised by the five-star reviews. Perhaps when you consider the price point it is a good deal. But the build itself is noticeably lower-mid range: plastic underside, light weight, roughly cast components. At any price that is not five stars to me. It all seems to work, lights up, lens and eyepieces look good but just darkness when looking through the scope. I think the mechanical stage was incorrectly installed. There is a gap between the stage and the scope, and I think the picture shows how one could have installed it wrong but I'm not touching it, yet. ... show more

For the price, I was really impressed. It's mostly metal and feels heavy duty, like the ones I used in school. It's certainly weighty. All the proper adjustments on a real microscope are present, and they all feel super smooth. The image I get is excellent. I've already used it several times and I'm blown away at the clarity of the images of the specimens, some of them being quite small. The included case is thoughtful as well. All the compartments are thoroughly padded to give the microscope and all its accessories proper protection. I like that this kit also includes sample specimens to get the kids going right away. Microscopes have always fascinated me, and I'm glad I found one that works this well and this well put together. ... show more

Microscopes we used during the middle school were so interesting to me, being able to own one is as interesting indeed. Apparently this is a well made microscope, great for educational purposes. Focus depth is excellent, focusing knobs are smooth and stable. This is a nice microscope and it is still interesting to look in to objects in such depth.
