I bought this to put a rooftop tent on. At first I had the tent mounted on the top of my Jeep but it was not really convenient to use in practice. I decided to try putting it on a trailer so it would be lower to the ground so this is what I bought. It was shipped in a timely fashion but was missing a spring hanger. The missing piece was promptly shipped after I informed them. Assembly was easy. I installed a 3/4" plywood floor and painted it. Then I made a rail system high enough to store camping chairs and table underneath the rooftop tent which was mounted to the top of the rail system. 2 days later we took an 1,100 trip and it pulled beautifully. I wouldn't know it was back there if I didn't check my rear view mirror. It's very easy to move around while unhooked. I did add a folding jack with wheel to the front and 2 fold down jack stands in the rear to stabilize it while using the tent. All in all, it is a great system. ... show more

    • Nice base for a Motorcycle Trailer.
I bought this to turn into a motorcycle trailer and it works great behind my 1300 Honda VTX. I've had it up to speeds of 80 mph with no issues. it pulls straight and true and it's so light that when empty I forget it's back there. Building it took me several hours and wiring it several more. I mounted a roof top carrier to this and it works fine for my needs. The "certificate of origin" needed to register it came in the mail directly from the seller before the trailer arrived. It came in two separate boxes and came pretty fast. I would recommend this trailer to anyone looking for something lightweight to pull. ... show more

    • A solid trailer base
I was a little slow to order this trailer frame. There is a local store of a chain merchant that tends to have frames for a competitive price. They were out of stock and I got tired of waiting. In the end, I'm not disappointed as the price difference was minimal and aluminum is more suited to my coastal environment than steel. This is a good solid little aluminum frame. The area where it could have been improved is with the wiring harness. I don't know what China has against copper wires of a decent guage. Anyway, I built on this frame and I'm pleased with the end result. I plussed (is that a word?) up a couple of things: I replaced the coupler with a 2" size to match my existing equipment, I added stake pocket brackets to build up the sides and ends and I replaced the wheel bearing caps with Bearing Buddy bearing protectors. I built from there. If you are going to drill through the frame to add accessories or parts, make sure you don't drill through the wiring harness. In retrospect, I'd have drilled first and installed wiring second. Ah well... ... show more

I bought this trailer because I needed the size and I couldn’t find a fully assembled one that was 48”. And I think the idea of this is great being all aluminum, but like other reviewers have said all of the bolts are nickel plated and they will rust. The fenders and the brackets for the tail lights are very poor. My tail light fell off on the drive to the DMV to get it titled, less than 25 miles!!! then you have the tires and bearings that are good for about 55 miles an hour (which is difficult to maintain with a trailer you forget is even there).. In contrast, the label ont he tongue of the trailer says not to exceed 45mph. The wiring is not so complicated, at least it wasn’t for me, they just miss telling you that the white wire for all the lights is ground. Using the splices that they give you is bad idea, they’re going vibrate resulting in lights flickering eventually. The splices are ok for static wires, but not trailer wires exposed to a lot of vibration. They also supplied self tapping screws for the ground wires which will easily come loose, so instead I used stainless 1/4 x 20 bolts with nuts for the ground wires, and soldered all of the light connections and sealed with waterproof heat shrink tubing. Finally there are no grommets for when the wires pass that through the frame which means eventually the wires are going to chafe and cause a short - highly suggest using grommets when you pass the wires through the frame. Let’s talk about cost. It seems like a very inexpensive trailer, that’s what I thought. However, after spending $600 for the trailer, $250 for wheels that can handle more than 55 miles an hour (M rated), new tail light brackets, and new fenders because the fenders are very cheap and will fracture at the mounting holes given the holes are too close to the edge of the material, and then a wood deck which cost me another $200 with stainless steel hardware. I now have over $1000 into this trailer. I also suspect I’m going to have to replace the wheel bearings with better bearings at some point soon. I don’t know this for a fact, but based on how inexpensive the rest of the trailer is... The tongue of the trailer is mounted to the frame in 2 locations with 4 bolts only through the extrusion flange. The problem with this is that the two sets of bolts on each crossmember flange are so close to one another, there is very little material to resist cracking of the brittle aluminum. It would have been better if the bolts went through both sides of the extrusion. Maybe it's ok, but given these 4 locations are the point of highest forces from pulling the trailer I just wasn't comfortable. So when i added 4x4's to the trailer to serve as the base for the wood deck, I tied the 4x4's to the tongue extrusion with V brackets spreading the load to the entire trailer. see picture. This item was easy to assemble and I received what I expected. The Certificate of Origin did not arrive but customer service reordered one for me and expedited the process since I let them know I really couldn't wait it to arrive by regular mail. I will buy form Northern Tools Again.
