I bought this pen as a Christmas gift for my daughter. The pen worked for a while but then stopped working. I took this opportunity to teach my daughter how to handle customer service issues herself. So my 12yr old, contacted the company's customer service department and informed them she was 12yr old. First off, the level of professionalism of this group was amazing, even speaking to a young person. I, of course, closely monitored what transpired through my email account. The company sent a replacement pen. No questions asked, only asked to return the previous equipment. After receiving the replacement, it instantly failed. After this occurrence, I investigated the pen myself, and could smell a burning smell inside the pen. This led me to believe that the motor had burned up, and to do so right out of the box it had to be the power supply. After emailing customer service about this, they sent a new pen and new power supply immediately, no questions asked. We then sent them back the old equipment and the old power supply for them to test. It was in fact a faulty power supply that caused the issues. The company representative even followed up with me to let me know what they found after testing. The company reps were actually reaching out to us to make sure things were correct, and that we were happy with the product. There were a few times during the process that we actually forgot and the reps reminded us that they wanted to help us. Superb customer service, never dealt with better people. ... show more

I was stumped on what to get my 11 year old for Christmas. After looking at 3D printers and wood laser engravers, I went with this pen, since it was the least expensive and I wasn't sure if he'd like it. Well, he LOVES it. He was able to pick it up and start using it right away. It did take a bit of trial and error for him to figure out how to control it, but he's been able to make some pretty cool things so far. The problem is that these things break. We've been able to clear any jams/clogs relatively easily, but the first one completely stopped working within a month. Tech support was AMAZING. They responded quickly, gave us some things to try, and ultimately sent out a replacement, which arrived within a few days. Upon getting the old unit back they gave us an update and told us the heating element stopped working, it was a manufacturing defect, nothing we could do to prevent it. The replacement item is also having problems now. I've done some adjustments per the manufacturer, and he's still having problems. This one might have to go back as well. These are really cool when they work, they just aren't made well. And from what I've seen, most 3D pens are the same. Next time I'll spend extra and get something that'll last longer and be a little less frustrating. ... show more

I’m a huge fan of 3Doodler products - so much that I’ve purchased each pen they have offered. The problem I always had was that their pens used a filament that was hard to justify purchasing for my typical large projects. I’d found a financial balance between using 1.75mm filament pens and 3Doodler 3.0mm filament pens for my large products. The 3doodler pens never let me down. They lasted for years. The many 1.75mm pens with cheaper color options failed me more times I can count. Now the 3Doodler gods have answered my prayers. They have performed the miracle of marrying their reliable technology with the many artistic options of 1.75mm filament. The pen is also compatible with the accessories I purchased over the years.     • Be aware, doesn't use standard printer filament sizes

I bought this, not really for its intended purpose but that made me aware of the fact that it uses a non standard filament size, which I did not notice before I bought it, and I wish I had. I needed to 3D print a large object, and the object would not fit on my 3D printer. I sliced the object up into 8 sections, and then I 3D printed each piece. I then used this, with the exact same filament I used to print the parts, to weld them together to make a single larger part. It actually worked, surprisingly well, except for one thing. This uses a 3mm filament. Standard printer filaments are 1.75 or 2.85. This means standard filament is too small to really be pushed through the way the pen is designed to push it. I was still able to push it through manually but it was really inconvenient. So, if you want to use this with only the filament that comes with the pen, or want to only use it with filament you buy from 3D doodler, then great, this may work great for you. However, there are lots of affordable multicolor filament packs available here on Amazon for 3D pens. They are based on 1.75mm printer filament and will not work with this pen. There are also lots of affordable pens available that work with 1.75mm filament. Just be aware that if you buy this pen, you will not be able to use standard printer filament sizes. ... show more

I bought two of these toward the end of school last year for my students. Within the first week both of them were not working. I reached out to customer service to see if they could tell me what was wrong or if there was a way I could "fix:" them. The filament would not "flow" or reverse. I never received any response from customer service. Those two pens are still in their boxes in the bottom drawer. I have several of the 3Doodler Starts and one of the 3Doodler Create, which are great, but the Flow is not a good pen. ... show more
