We originally purchased this product and installed it a few months ago. Used it for about 3 months and it just stopped working. Display turned off and I have no idea why. Look elsewhere for a similar product.

I ordered this JHiveGym manufactured electric tankless water heater to install in a protected outdoor kitchen to provide hot water to a single sink. Tankless water heaters provide an energy efficiency solution compared to a tank water heater since tankless water heaters do not store heated water 24/7 and only heats water when needed. The compact design of this JHiveGym tankless water heater allows installation under a sink for near instant hot water at the sink. The 240 volt/ 30 amp requirement allows for an easy 10 AWG copper wire to be used, depending on the length from the electrical panel hookup. This JHiveGym tankless water heater has the added benefit of using frequency conversion technology that automatically adjusts power input according to the flow and temperature settings, thereby, increasing energy efficiency. I am also impressed with the IPX24 waterproof rating with leakage, dry burning and over temperature protection. Additionally, the LCD digital display allows for easy temperature adjustments. An added benefit of using an electric tankless water heater is minimal maintenance since it does not require regular flushing or cleaning like gas water heaters. One major negative to this JHiveGym tankless water heater is that it does not provide information on flow rates versus needed water temperature rise. Most tankless water heaters provide a sizing chart or table showing flow rate versus water temperature rise that allows for proper selection of the model needed for a specific application. Selecting a tankless water heater that does not have the capacity to heat the needed water requirements will result in poor performance. A precise temperature rise calculation is essential to ensure that the heater can provide consistent and comfortable hot water throughout the year, especially when the incoming water temperature may change from summer and winter months. Typically, a 240 volt/ 30 amp electric tankless water heater can only provide limited gpm with a temperature rise of 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit, which dictates a single sink use. Since this water heater is supplying only one sink, it will be a perfect fit. The instructions that came with this unit are not specific to installation in the United States. The instructions states that this water heater must be installed with an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB), the “live wire is red or brown, neutral is blue or black, and earth wire is yellow-green”, which are wire colors and electrical terminology for Europe. However, the unit’s feed wire is properly color-coded for the United States and has a label designating each wire.     • Works decent for the sink
I had to run 220 across my whole house. Which wasn't cheap. But the water heater seems to do a good job for running my kids' sinks. They don't crank the heat, but normal heat that they run for washing their hands, it seems to work fine. I would recommend it if you need one for farther across your house and you don't run a hot water recirc system. Or one for a shop or something. This is perfect for that. ... show more

I’ve been looking for a small tankless water heater for my shop/studio to replace a 12-gallon electric tank style water heater that had reached its end of life and developed a leak. I decided to go tankless for the energy savings and to get more hot water, as on some occasions the 12-gallon unit wasn’t enough. There are a lot of compact tankless water heaters out there, some priced considerably less than this unit, however, as I found out, you get what you pay for. I ordered a lesser priced unit which turned out not to fit my needs. For a relatively small increase in cost this unit offers a considerable step-up in both quality and capabilities. A few notable features: • 6500-watt heating element • Enhanced safety features • Informative Digital display o Temperature set point o Realtime water output temperature o Realtime water flow rate in gallons per minute o Status indicators for Power, Heating, Overflow and more • Memory – retains settings during power outage • Small compact size • Standard ½” NPT connections • Convenient wall hanging bracket This is a true tankless, flow-through water heater, as such, its ability to heat water to a set temperature is dependent on several factors including the temperature of the incoming water and the output flow-rate. Flow-through heaters are typically rated by their ability to achieve a specific temperature rise within a given flow rate (for example a 30-degree temperature rise at 3 gallons per minute). I found no such specifications listed for this heater. With tankless water heaters higher wattage directly correlates to higher capacity. The 6500 watts of this heater limits its ability to provide a large temperature rise at high flow rates, making this unit more suitable for use for a single fixture with a relatively low flow rate, which matches my intended use. I found the unit performed well for an inexpensive water heater. In my use, it was able to quickly achieve the set temperature at flow rates up to 3.1 gallons per minute. Of course, this depends on the temperature of the incoming water – your results may vary. One very nice feature is both the temperature and flow sensors were extremely accurate, with the data presented on the digital display exactly matching my test equipment. Another must-have feature for my use is the ability of retaining the temperature settings during a power outage, as in my case, the unit will not always be powered on. The unit is compact, stylish and lightweight. It comes with a simple vertical wall bracket that makes mounting it quick and easy. The heater requires a 240-volt, 30-amp circuit and half inch NPT water connections. So far, I am pleased with the heater. Once winter rolls around I’ll have a better idea how well it works with colder infeed water. For now, it is performing well and I am happy to have hot water once again available in the shop. ... show more
