I am 5'4" and 160 lbs. 14 in jeans I ordered the Large in black. These fit, but In the future I will likely order an XLarge for comfort in the waistband. These hose do have a lightly reinforced toe, but I definitely would not say they are a controll-top style so if you are looking for compression in the top look elsewhere. The hose are relatively sheer, but have a kind of grainy look to the fabric more like very thin sheer tights than pantyhose that I'm used to. These do not strike me as sexy in any way, but they do seem very utilitarian and like they could withstand a decent amount of abuse. When putting them on I did not feel that they would run or that my fingers would go through them just by pulling them up and adjusting them on my legs....as sometimes happens with pantyhose. I love that they come as a package of 3, and I feel they are good day-to-day value hose that I will likely order again in the future. ... show more

Sheer to me means more shiny. These are very thin, dull when stretched. Not very soft. When put on, they make your skin look sortof weird-not black or see through but a weird in-between. Would not recommend.
