I hate going out to my RV and forgetting my keys and not being able to get into one of the compartments. These locks have eliminated that for me. I set them to my super secret pin number and I never have to remember my keys. I use these in combination with the standard twist handle and it works great. You could however use a keyed one and this together in tandem if security was of the utmost importance I suppose as that way you'd have to break through both, but these are really just more of a deterrent than anything else and a blood pressure reducer for every time I forget my keys! The lock is sturdy. Hard to see the numbers. The instructions are not clear for adjusting the combination. Check the other reviews for a video and instructions to grab the shaft to be able to turn the lock mechanism which is fixed to both knobs. I bought these for a wood shop lock box project for my High School students; unfortunately I let the return time frame slip before testing them. We could not even get one to work out of 36 purchased. Same issue as many others had, would not unlock at 000 (or any other number) and therefore could not set a code or even get them to open. China quality at it's finest. Simple installation however instructions on how to set combination missing. Figured it out base on combo locks that are similar. Locks are not very sturdy and combination tumblers are very loose. Not what I would use for real security.

    • I Was Doing it Wrong!

The media could not be loaded. First, In order for the tumbler assembly and lock arm to pivot you have to hold the apparatus by the shaft. Second, the small hole for the pressure plate is only accessible in the unlocked position. Third, if the locking arm doesn't swivel fully but runs into the lip of the item you're locking there are at least two solutions. You can either notch the item or secure the swing arm in a vice past the hole on the screw end. Then hammer the arm back. About a quarter inch can be gained in this manner. I would have given it 4 stars but the numbers don’t line up well and one of them just will not set. I’ve tried it dozens of times. Apparently there is a bit of an issue with the numbers lining up correctly because the instructions caution about that. I got two of them perfectly but the 3rd one is trash. Nothing works.
