  • My wife loves it
Color: Red
My wife bakes a lot of homemade sourdough bread in cast iron pots. Lifting the hot/heavy pots is difficult for her, so a sling makes removing the freshly baked bread a breeze.

  • It works great!
Color: Orange
I have an old Dutch oven that I rescued from the trash pile. The enamel on the bottom has been pretty much destroyed. I’ve tried everything to get the burnt stains out without much success. Long story short, it is now a dedicated bread baker. This liner works amazing. It does not stick, no warping issues at 450F and cleans like a dream. Highly recommend instead of parchment paper. ... show more

  • Good option vs parchment paper
Color: Red
I bake two loaves of sourdough bread weekly. I make one in a PC Oval Baker and one in a round Dutch oven. This set is perfect for me because I get one of each. The slings fit perfectly in my pans. I'm amazed at how perfect they fit. They are easy to clean and take care of and roll up small for storage. I pre-heat my pans and oven to 500 deg F and these survive. They haven't softened in my pan nor stuck to the inside of my oven or glass window on the door (see below). This item is a 5 start item. That being said, there are some characteristics of this product that makes it such that I probably will just go back to parchment paper. Pros: They are heat resistant. They make it easy to lower the dough and remove the loaves from the hot pans. The ears are longer and keep my hands further away from the hot pans than my parchment which is limited by the width of the roll. They don't wrinkle and I don't inadvertently bake it into the loaves like I have with parchment. They are non-stick so the loaves are easy to remove after baking, but they are "grippy" enough that the bread doesn't just slide off the slings while transferring to a wire rack. I've almost lost a lot of loaves slipping off the parchment both before and after baking. They are sturdier than parchment paper. Parchment paper can rip while I'm lifting the loaves out. They are reusable whereas parchment can only be used once. Cons: The bread isn't as crusty on the bottoms as when I bake with parchment paper. It's still crusty, just not as crusty. The ears of the slings stick up far when I put the lids of the bakers on and because I bake two pans together, they typically touch the sides of my oven or the oven door The ears of the slights are HOT when they come out of the oven. I have to use pot holders to remove my loaves from the pans using the slings. Parchment paper cools off almost immediately. When I use parchment with my oval loaf, I sling it the loaf the short way, not like the ears on this sling. Since I use round bannetons, this oval sling causes my loaves to be wider than the pan and the loaves stick to the sides of the pan. Parchment paper is biodegradable. These silicone slings are not. ... show more

  • Bread Baker Here! Great Place to Start!
Color: Cyan
I’ve been baking sourdough for the past 7 months, and this is the second set of silicone slings I’ve owned. The slings are decaled with some sizing guides, with 6” radius being the max size the round one recommends (for me, this is a recipe that uses ~4+ cups of flour). The silicone does not get too hot when baking and transferring (of course, PLEASE still use oven mitts), and the bottoms of the loaves bake evenly in my opinion. Some bread makers simply don’t like silicone, such as my father, and stick with using just parchment paper – silicone works better for me as I bake 6-7 loaves every 2 weeks and having quick turnover between loaves while reducing waste. It is easy to hand wash, though I suspect it could be put through the dishwasher as well. I was especially interested in the rectangle-shaped loaf and used it to bake enough bread for a tea party without any incidence of burnt crust or stuck dough, so I would recommend this set for someone starting out with silicone and needing the flexibility of different shapes for your loaves. ... show more

  • great
Color: Orange
at about $10 currently for two bread slings, i think this is a pretty good deal. i picked this one because it reports a 500°F temperature limit. other ones i have seen were lower... i have not baked bread before, but i thought having a higher limit would be better (i had done a cursory research on bread slings and the most common critique on why people didnt want to use them was the temperature limit, so i just picked one with a higher range). i attached a picture of my wonky first loaf ever baked... the shape of the loaf is user error, but the sling was lovely. it made it so easy to place into the dutch oven, and so easy to remove and cleaning was also... easy peasy. i actually wanted to see if i would get any use out of the oval shape of sling, because i have a round dutch oven, but the shape did not seem to impede me at all (again, the shape of my bread is my own fault for the way i put the dough in, not at all influenced by the sling). i am very happy for this, i will be giving my sister the other sling so we can both use them even though we both have round dutch ovens. ... show more
