  • i use it at work alot, so far it is noticeable at 26kft
Size: 50km Color: Yellow Switch Number of Items: 2
got this to replace a dead one i had for work. it is bright, we call it the torch at work. so far we have used it to locate fibers that are spliced together at 26kft, you have to give the fibers a little bend and they will light up. if you are close (15kft) the fiber is easily seen.

  • Super easy and portable
Size: 10km Color: Orange Switch Number of Items: 1
The descriptions accurately represent the functionality and seems to work great. The biggie in my mind is how portable the device is. I do a lot of fiber and copper cabling, toning, testing, etc. and those of you in the same world will relate to the amount of gear your typically carry in your packs. Some of these are very large and bulky devices like BERT testers, toners, and other various tools so space is always limited as well as how much weight you can actually carry in one trip. I love the size and weight of this and it works well for the work I do. The only small concern to even note is long term use. It is a little light and I can see packing it with a bunch of other tools may eventually damage it but I think keeping it in its sheath should be fine as it is heavier material. Otherwise I am satisfied with the price point, functionality, and portability TheMansReview overall rating: 4 stars ... show more

  • Decent VFL option for the average Sysadmin
Size: 30km Color: Purple Switch Number of Items: 1
Overall, I'd say this is a very nice VFL for Sysadmins and Network Admins who occasionally need to locate a break or, as I find, locate an unlabeled fiber that was installed many many years ago by a previous person who (of course) is no longer employed at the organization. The body is metal, although the end near the laser itself may be a dense plastic or aluminum (it's certainly non-ferrous). Build quality feels good overall though. The unit comes with a short detachable lanyard, a little carrying pouch (with belt loop), and a fiber adapter and a little sleeve. I expect most people will immediately lose the pouch, as it's fairly basic, but if you need it on your belt it might prove a bit more useful. As far as distance, I don't have anything long-distance to test with, but in my limited testing it lights up fiber dust caps without issue at shorter distances really well. The VFL also has a Glint (flash) feature, which can help with finding a strand more easily in a densely-packed fiber box or cabinet. Finally, there's a safety sleeve that you rotate (the upper body of the unit, see pictures) to cover the sliding switch. While it's not perfect, it does help prevent the device from accidentally being turned on and creating an optical hazard. Cons: My only gripe with the unit is the included adapter. I greatly appreciate that they include the adapter, but unfortunately the threaded sleeve does not come anywhere close to being able to actually thread onto the unit. See attached pictures. It's a solid 5+ mm gap between the end of the sleeve and the start of the threads, so there's no way to screw it on. That said, it works just fine as-is, and as long as you're not hanging it from the fiber, it should stay attached just from friction. For me, I don't expect this to ever be a problem. ... show more

  • Makes life a lot easier
Size: 30km Color: Purple Switch Number of Items: 1
Our environment includes a number of patch panels installed by different vendors over many years. Some of the contractors did better work compared to others and in many cases it can be challenging to know exactly which fibers are terminated in what position on the other end. One end may have a vertical panel and the other end a horizontal panel. In some cases they went left to right while the other end is bottom to top or random. In other cases when decommissioning a fiber path sometimes an intermediate patch has been left in place. When it's time to establish a new connection it can be challenging to find available pairs while minimizing risk to production connectivity. This VFL uses two AA batteries (not included) and features a glint mode that flashes the laser on and off or a continuous mode that sends a solid laser. Even with the dust caps in place it's very easy to spot the fiber you are looking for at the other end. In the attached pictures the remote end is approximately 20 km away yet the red laser light flashing on and off was very easy to spot. I am using a SC - LC short fiber jumper with the SC end pushed onto the VFL while the LC end is connected to the fiber patch panel. This will make life so much easier while lowering risk that we might bump off a production connection poking around a patch panel. ... show more

  • Simple visual fiber optic cable tester, works with Toslink audio cables too
Size: 10km Color: Orange Switch Number of Items: 1
The media could not be loaded. This is a simple laser light like a flashlight to test your fiber optic cables. If you see light at the other end, then it’s probably good. It doesn’t measure the light level or light loss for you, so you just have to judge the amount of light coming out the other end using your eyes. It comes with a soft case to wear on your belt, but it doesn’t have any pockets to hold the universal adapter that it comes with. It would have been a nicer kit if the case would hold all the accessories, which is why I rated it 4- instead of 5-stars. ... show more
