    • I wish I had this for my first baby! An honest and very detailed review.
I'm really impressed with this sleeper and honestly, a bit shocked at how far these have evolved in the past 12 years. I looked at A LOT of these and while this one is one of the pricier options it is, without a doupt, worth every dollar! We actually refer to it as the 'Rolls-Royce' of bedside sleepers/bassinets. This arrived very quick, with everything well wrapped, protected and packaged in a studry, branded box. I inspected every inch of each piece (partially because I'm a psycho and partially for review purposes) and I didn't find a single scratch, dent or any abnormalities at all. There were no strange smells when I opened this either, but I did elect to wash everything I could before assembly. I'm very pleased with how easy it is to get the washable/material parts off. Then, it was really easy to get everything back on too (it used to take me forever to put the covers back on, but not anymore!) Combined with the fact that this is very easy to wash (normal cycle- warm. Tumble dry on low), I quickly started to love this. Assembly was super easy! No tools are needed as each piece fits inside the other and clicks to lock tight or adjust. Not including the time it took (less than 5 minutes) to put the cloth back over the frame, I had this completely assembled in 15 minutes. The directions are easy to follow. I have to add that this is the EASIEST baby item I've ever put together- 12 years ago or with this recent baby. I was a but worried at first for a few reasons- First, this almost looks off center (so it can roll under the bed, couch, chair, ect), so I thought it would be wobbly. This isn't wobbly at all though. The studry, solid construction doesn't even wiggle. I was also worried about the wheels, especially because we have hardwoods. But the wheels lock tight and even with me knocking into this all night, it doesn't budge. Now when the wheels aren't locked, it's so easy to push this from room to room. Speaking of probability- This is a 2 in 1. You can use the bassinet part alone (not on the stand) or you can connect them and use this next to the bed or wherever your sitting. The two sections are easy to dis and reconnect. Not only can I roll the baby from room to room upstairs easy, but I can also get baby (safe in the bassinette) downstairs then go back upstairs to fetch the legs. Everyone is safe and it really makes things easy. And easy is an understatement! Since I sleep with the baby at the same level as I am, reaching up and into the bassinet (it's pretty deep and spacious) would be rather uncomfortable, especially at 2-3am. The zipper on the side gives me easy access to the baby and isn't difficult to find (in the dark, half asleep) or zip/unzip. It's also very easy to adjust the height and the legs click lock in place. I can do this by myself in under a minute, one side at a time, but having another person on the other side allows for simultaneous adjustments. The height levels are numbered, so no need to count holes. The mattress, standard size, is of course waterproof. It has a nice padded surface that seems comfy but also supportive. Another suprise is that, despite being waterproof, the mattress doesn't make a lot of noise. The padding and netting is soft and great quality. It is sewn well with clean and even stitching and hems. There wasn't a single rogue thread upon arrival and despite being washed a handful of times already, it still looks and feels brand new. One of the biggest reasons I chose this sleeper is because of the color. I absolutely LOVE colors- the brighter the better, and I utilize a lot of color in my house. I had a beautiful pink sleeper for my daughter, but this time around I wanted a neutral colored sleeper. I feel the gray is not only pleasant, but it doesn't look/get dirty easy, it isn't a giant eye sore in the room, and it blends seamlessly into any decor. It just looks so rich and classy. I know I definitely made the right choice. PLUS, thus would be excellent (and a nice change from green or yellow) if gender is going to be a surprise or if you want to be neutral. I'm really pleased and impressed with this bassinet/sleeper combo. It makes life that much easier (and safer for baby!), it's strong and studry and it's really good looking too. Great bassinet/bedside sleeper! Easy to set up and use, as well as safe. The hardest part of assembly was pulling it out of the box. It was easy to assemble with clear instructions. (It is also easy to disassemble, although it took me longer to figure out how to get the bassinet part off). Adjusting the height is very easy and smooth. When I first adjusted it, I didn't realize I had each side on a different number/height though. So make sure you check what number each side is on to ensure it is flat - although you could intentionally make it incline slightly if needed for medical reasons reflux (I had to with my 1st son) The mesh part that zips down doesn't zip all the way down, it only folds about half way or so down there is still a lip or barrier inbetween the bed and baby in the bassinet. This is likely a safety thing that all have (I know the one I had for my 1st son was the same). Just noting it incase people want something perfectly flush to your bed, particularly to make breastfeeding easier, this sleeper will still have a barrier and it doesn't fold entirely down. It helps prevent baby from rolling out, in-between a crack or onto your bed which is a good thing but I know when breastfeeding I liked to just roll over and nurse without having to lift baby at all. The appearance of it is nice as well. Simple gray with a clean, basic look. Not overly bulky (although the feet/base of it can cause toe stubs if you're not careful). One of the nicest aspects of this baby bedside sleeper is its adjustable height, which allows me to easily adjust the sleeper to the height of my bed. Putting this bassinet together was simple and needed little work. The sleeper appears to be sturdy, with solid fabric and metal parts. Two of the bassinet sides have mesh windows, allowing you to check on the baby without getting up. The sleeper is spacious, providing plenty of room for the baby. Baby equipment has really changed in the last 50 years. The one I used with my babies was painted wicker with a wooden bottom, and a fairly unsteady base that could easily tip over thanks to the tiny rollers on the base. You had to get up out of bed to take a peek at the baby, because the sides were taller than the bed and since they were solid wicker you couldn’t see through them. This beautifully designed Starmons bassinet has so many nice features. The base is very stable even though it is on rollers. The frame is angled, with longer horizontal bars on one side of the bassinet so you can slide it further under your bed easily. The height adjusts so you can get it level with your bed, or even a little higher if you like. The ends are made of quilted fabric that looks great and is comfortable for the baby if it pushes against it. Both sides are a mesh fabric so you can easily see the baby without getting out of bed. One side zips down so you can reach in and pat the baby or just put your hands under its nose to see if it is breathing. (don’t laugh–you know all mamas do it whether they admit it or not) The top railing of the bassinet is also padded to make it more comfortable for you when lifting the baby out.
